windrunner fields
sunset

from the mountainside, beneath the trees, satsu watched the world tremble and sweat.
the field rolled ceaselessly beyond. clusters of white-tipped reeds took on the look of a mirage.

she could not be certain what she saw there, striding in the open.

as the sun tipped low, a breeze reached across the grass and stroked her face invitingly.
satsu gave in to her urges
—just this once, just for a moment—
and began to dance alongside the wind.
The overlarge white brute watched the woman move and sway, his eyes took in every inch of her graceful form. He noticed her moments were not so ritualistic as they had a freeing quality about them, he wondered where her offering to the god might be? That was the only reason he danced. But try as he might he could not find a reason for her flowing movements, he head tilted to the left as he continued to watch her.

The wind blew past her an toward him, he caught the scent of pack but this was one he did not know personally, he’d have to change that.

He wondered if she closed her eyes when he danced? To figure that out he’d have to get closer, With the wind blowing his scent from the woman he very slowly and very quietly moved toward her to watch her dance up close. He smiled as he drifted into her space and waited for her to notice him.
her dance itself was a story; she moved, and in moving she reminded herself of her mother. once when she could not sleep, her mother told her the story of shoki, the demon slayer.

satsu wove a tale with the quick, precise steps she had been taught.

the movements became more pronounced as she added another character; namazu, who leapt from the water and in doing so, shook the world until it split.

she did not get far in to the tale; her demon-slayer began to round upon namazu and as she pirouetted, satsu caught sight of something far more real.
large, pale, and watchful—she gasps and the dance abruptly stops.
His sun golden eyes caught every moment she made, picking up on her story this was not just a random dance and he felt himself becoming more intrigued. Her gasp was cute when she finally noticed him and he could not help but smile in good humour before he spoke, His voice, a natural deep thrum and he used it in a soothing manner. "Don't stop on my account Mi’lady"

He bowed his large head in a respectful gesture “I was quite enjoying your dedication.” He continued in his warm Rumble “I am Vein a Medic of this pack and a priest of my people” He offered her an introduction for he doubted she was going to finish her dance even though he wanted nothing more then to see how it ended.

Then against perhaps the dance had no end like much of his did not.
a shortlist of names flit through her mind;
the stranger here was new to her.

it was not nyra, though they boasted a similar physique.
it was not ramesses, with his prideful bearing and ominous eyes.

this man held kindness in his tone. perhaps that was what shocked satsu the most.
i am ushiyo satsu, ah, the slightest of blushes.
you surprise me. i am not used to an audience.
though she did wonder. . .
what could a wajo be doing here, among the war-hungry?
The smiles on his maw was relaxed and warm "Well Ushiyo Satsu you should not be anxious, your dance was beautiful and was a wonder to behold, I for one am glad to have be given the gift of seeing in it, even if you were unaware your were sharing."

The over large white male had a dirty pelt unlike the normally pristine Nyra and he lay down, not wanting to waste energy on standing, though even as he lay down he was still almost eye to eye with the small female. "What brings you to a pack like the Saint's of the Dying Light?" He asked the question, curious though must females in these parts did seem to be part of Kynareth's loose harem or at least the Grandmaster was rather charming and drew in all kinds of wolves
oh, just... just satsu, is fine.
as much as she enjoys hearing her full name, it is something that has always been reserved for family. she has no family now. to hear it from another's lips feels wrong to her somehow. a trick of her sorrow.

this man, vein, is full of compliments for her. soon satsu's face is flushed.
thank you--
what brings you to a pack like the saints of the dying light?
oh, he is quite forward with his speech.

fate, i suppose. murmurs satsu. kyn-dono found me when i needed help, and in time i came to ask for it.
she did not want to speak of the deeper reasons for her arrival; the loss of family and han, to be precise. this was a wound that would not heal.
have you served the daimyo long?
Vein was never one to mince words, something he had learned to do in his chosen self proclaimed profession, was to ask the deep questions bluntly. Catch one off guard and likely get a Truer answer. Vein nodded thoughtfully at her answer he could tell she didn’t want to elaborate and so he didn’t push it was not his place and she wasn’t in need of and medical help that her past history would be helpful for.

He found her scent of embarrassment rather cute and his eyes shown with appreciation for her natural feminine beauty he tried his best, and failed just a little to not to allow his eyes roam her body, he had a wife after all.

His head tipped to the left of its own accord as she asked her return question “Humm… Daimyo?” He rumbled “I’m not sure of these Daimyo you speak of, I serve the gods. The Sun God, Death God, Creator God, Rain God, War God, and many more.” He trailed off for most wolves were shy of talk of the gods even though the gods held check over every facet of their daily lives.

He would not push the conversation toward the gods unless she asked, "I could show you a dance I do for the gods if you wish" well at least he'd not force the conversation that direction he only offered the dance because he didn't want their conversation to end just yet
ah, he did not understand.
no, no, not a god.
would kyn-dono dare to call himself a god? he seemed the type.
the lord of the land. kynareth lords within the strathwood, as the daimyo.
but it did not matter much what they called him.

the offer to witness a dance has satsu's bashfulness flaring yet again; though she cannot refuse, as it would not be proper. better to accept the opportunity and perhaps learn of vein's gods, which might very well be the same as kynareth's; should such a barbaric creature hold value in such things, at any rate.

—but yes, i... i would like that. smiling thinly, satsu watches the white giant.
Vein nodded feeling sheepish but his deep voice rumbled warmly up from his chest "I apologize for my misunderstanding, it seems we all have many names for the Alpha, so far in this pack we seem to call him Grandmaster but I have seen in other packs the leaders have other names, it's so hard to keep these things straight"

He chuckled good naturedly. "At least the gods have but one name

His golden eyes looked thoughtful as he tried to remember the season in which he came it had not been long “There was still snow about when I the gods guided my path to this place, with my belongings, my plants and trimmings.” He had not seen many other wolves travel as heavily burdened as he had.

Not long, but it feels much longer, It is very odd, though it is summer I find less wolves to treat for medical injuries. Normally there is more injuries in summer due to hunting not less,” He longed to dust off his healing skills but he was also glad there wasn’t so many wolves to treat either double edged blade he supposed

The shaman lifted his eyes skyward looking for squirrels or someone near by prey he preferred to dance over a sacrifice “I need to set the tone for my dance,"

He turned his sun hued orbs back to her “Care to hunt with me? Perhaps a rabbit? Though if we are lucky a goat or deer fawn”  he offered hopefully
the man has much to say.
surprisingly, his dance requires more sacrifice than her own; satsu wonders at this, having never encountered such a thing.
his invitation is met with wide eyes.
i -- yes, of course. though she has yet to hunt alongside anyone aside from the daimyo.
perhaps they will be fortunate enough to find something swiftly.
what is... what is a goat?
