For only a day now, the ice prince's dark eyes had been open. All that he could make out were dark, blurry spots and shadows. These were the forms of his litter mates and mother and father (when he visited). He knew them well by smell. But he still found the scent of rich, fatty milk preferable to puppy breath, and the occasional sharpness from a wet bottom.

Entranced and filled with ever growing wonder at the blob like shapes that were his family, Ensio was more active. He was tired of constantly being smushed on the ground! Shuffling in a mighty little rocking motion, his attempt to get his feet under him resulted instead in a barrel roll, forward against Arius and Makatza. He let out a surprised string of chirring little grunts and growls. At least he had made some progress, as he lifted a shaky paw to clamber up.
Arius was content in his dreamland.

Within himself lay a multitude of worlds and each begged for exploration. He saw the flickering light-to-dark of shadows as well as the pale, transitional gossamer of light. Nothing made sense; nothing had to. It was easier to reach out in his dream and try to touch the light, or spread his toes in pools of shadow.

In the waking world his little legs churned. He kicked the air — and subsequently, Makatza. It was unfortunately timed so that his kick met one side of her while Ensio's rolling body steamrolled the other; but the sensation of his sibling across him brought the dream to an end.

The boy crowed a high note, utterly offended that he be woken up in such a way.
