since arriving at the caldera peregrine had done everything to avoid the majority of the redhawks. he had no desire to meet any of them. in all honesty he didn’t even want to be here. it’d taken a lot for @Mou and @Maegi to convince him to come along. they nearly failed, but the mention of @Phox was all the incentive he needed.
so here he was. stuck in a shithole, surrounded by shitty people, but at least he could spend more time with his dad. he didn’t do much but act as his shadow.
dad! he galloped through the grass and kept his eyes peeled for any sign of Phox. dad, where are you?

Phox had apparently given his shadow the slip, at least for the moment. The little family that had settled within the Caldera's ranks had been difficult to get to know-- seemingly on purpose, for most of them-- but Ruenna meant to remedy that. She barked to capture the boy's attention, seeing as she would have little chance of catching up to him.

"Hey there! I'm sorry, I don't mean to slow you down. But I wondered if I could help?" If the boy was looking for Phox, Ruenna had some ideas about where to start.
he be creepin', but feel free to find him, hehe.

He really hadn't gone far—just a little ways to check on one of the nearby caches—and he hadn't even meant to leave Peregrine behind. So when the boy began yelling "dad!" Phox was quick to loop back around... only to find Ruenna talking to him. Phox wasn't sure what to make of it, but maybe nothing was to be made. He had no reason to be concerned, although he was curious to see how Peregrine would react to her.

Phox kept his distance for now, observing just a ways away, hidden in the cover of some bushes.
well someone came. someone that wasn’t phox. his mood switched from cheerful to irritated faster than he could blink. peregrine was quick to turn his glare away from her. he tried to pretend she didn’t exist but that was hard task when she started speaking to him.
peregrine stopped in his tracks and shot daggers at the woman. i don’t need your help, he snorted, leave me alone. then forward he stomped.

The eyes that settled icily upon her looked uncannily like those belonging to Phox, but the rude response was even more startling. Taken aback, Ruenna was quiet for a long moment, and the boy began stomping away. Her ruff lifted in displeasure. She was an enormously patient woman, but even she had grown weary of the constant disrespect hurled around by Phox's and Towhee's offspring, generation after generation.

A moment later, the fur on her nape settled. This latest batch had been through a lot in their short lives, and surely they each deserved some grace as they settled in to their new home. She gave one more try, lifting her voice so he might hear it even as he stomped away. "If you change your mind, I know some of his favorite places. A few are good places to be alone."

Ruenna had not moved to follow the boy, and he soon moved out of range for the conversation to continue. With a sigh, she watched him stalk off into the distance. She hoped he was successful in his search, and the Phox was able to offer him some support for what was, no doubt, an extremely difficult change for the boy.
