@Maggie remained in her bedchamber. it had been some time since crowfeather's initial inspection of her, and now he was off somewhere to tend to his own needs, for which satsu could find no fault. the scent of germanicus had returned to the fringe of akashingo after all.
it was her duty to look after the coyote. she felt fortunate that it was not jawahir who lay injured and dying, as satsu might not have crossed the threshold in to the sickroom if that were so.
as she looked over the pale body laying akimbo against the earth, satsu watched for the rise and fall of the ribs, to first make sure she still breathed.
between her teeth was a strip of deer hide. the bundle included some of the spare herbs that she had seen crowfeather prepare, a small bird she had caught herself, and a sprig of some tired summer flower that had survived jawahir's rummaging.
as she stood there, the scent of @Jawahir grew stronger.
here to finish what the white bitch started?
their voice was like a serpent coiling back. they moved like a viper, winding from the corridor to the doorway and through, sulking in the dark, watching the halfblood with the harlot.
jawahir was loyal to themselves first, but maggie was a sister.
the voice startled her.
ears slanting back, satsu took on a more pointed, feral expression as she slanted a glare over her shoulder; it was brief, but in that moment she looked more kin to jawahir than anyone else within akashingo.
do not be cruel. i came to tend her.
if only for pharaoh's sake.
with their upcoming nuptuals, satsu worried that the man's prized toy was too far gone to keep him happy, in place of herself.
jawahir did not expect the tenacity within satsu's voice. it was very queen-like for that moment; within themselves flared jealousy in thinking of who could have taught her to behave in such a way, but the man whose eyes should only be for the mumis.
where is your shadow? the boy, he knows what to do.
tut-tut went the coyote's tongue. around one arching wall they tread, and around, to face satsu as they lay with the pale girl. protective as a mother cat.
do you not have something else to do?
satsu shot back with much impatience.
meals to prepare, or ramesses to tend to, in some way.

either as nurse or as bedfellow, it mattered little. so long as jawahir was out of sight of her.
the herbs lay bundled and forgotten at her feet, still. she looked upon maggie and wondered, what good would it do to waste these supplies on her? it did not bring the girl joy to see the deep wound upon their skull, but neither did it bring satsu joy at the prospect their stores were going towards something so useless.

all the while, she felt jawahir watching.
