those wandering the cerulean cape this day would stumble upon a curious sight. perhaps they would see the impressive hillock of sand first — or perhaps it would be the waving tail of the pale wolf in the pit beside that mound that first caught their eye. upon closer inspection, one would see sand flying from the pit at a rapid and steady pace.

yakone was digging, nearly invisible in the deep hole she'd carved out aside from her tail. there was no rhyme nor reason behind it aside from pure, thoughtless fun. she hadn't had time for that in what felt like ages. she was panting happily, sand caked in her silvery fur. for the first time in a long time, she felt free.
he was stumped.

blue-grey eyes squinted and stared down the shore to see…a sight! a rump with a waving tail and a mound of rehomed sand. he didn’t quite understand what he was witnessing.

they seemed too big to be a cub, yet they sure were acting like one.

oi! watcha doin’?

he called out, shorter tail offered a wispy wave as he approached closer.
a voice called to her — an unfamiliar male, who she saw was rather scarred and worn when she turned and rose on her forepaws to peer out from her sand pit. she gave an excitable woof and wiggled in his direction, whipping around rabbit-quick to resume her digging in a gesture of invitation. he could only understand if he experienced the joy of it, after all!
as perplexed as he was, he knew how to read body language.

she wasn't aggressive or irritable, she was excited — and seemed to be inviting him to her selfmade dunes.

okay, okay. hold yer horses. he huffed as he made his way over there. unable to stop the wave of his own 2/3rds of a tail.

it seemed she was just digging, no other ulterior motives. so what was all the craze about?

he grunted before he joined in on the task, flinging sand from the other side of the hole back between his legs. it was...kinda therapeutic, wasn't it?
he accepted her invitation, albeit somewhat grumpily. it didn't make a difference. yakone's front half bucked a little in a half-leap, forepaws hitting the ground in a burst of sand as she glanced up between digging to watch him approach. his first attempts at joining her seemed uncertain, as if he didn't quite know how to have fun. not everyone did, yakone had learned over time. that was okay; she could show him.

she stepped nearer to him with her head low, whining a warm encouragement and placing her paws near his to dig in demonstration. a flurry of sand shot out from behind her like a jet as her paws worked. then she paused with another little hop in place and nudged him, tail waving so enthusiastically that it had her back half wiggling.
