the hushed willows were true to their name; a place of gentle silence under the ever-present hum of life, a haven from the constant crash of the sea though salt hung in the air. wolves had not lived here for some time, but tonight, there was a visitor among the willows.

she danced under the trees and the moonlight, wild and fae and free. sharp pale teeth clicked and tore at the swaying limbs of willows draped over her figure from muzzle to hind. the trees seemed to sway under her movement, tendrils snaking over her body and following her as she twirled and leapt through the moonlit forest.

Silently he watched her gently swaying under the long flimsy branches. As he lingered, her steps grew more purposeful. But not with any particular direction, rather she seemed to join the direction of the winds flowing this way and that. It had been many moons since he had seen anyone dance. He smiled fondly at the memory.

Intrigued, Sela moved closer, willow branches hung between them tickling the man’s nose. He hadn’t seen trees like this before, but it seemed they did make good dance partners.

Sela himself loved to dance, while unknown to him, he had inherited his love and skill for dancing from his mother. So instead of breaking her concentration, or lack their of, Sela decided to try and join her instead.

He started first by matching her movements, in whatever minimal pattern he could find, and then by matching her tempo.
