he spent his days in the dark.

ptolemy remembered what the daylight had done to his eyes, how it had seared them. he was not fond of its brightness or intensity, and least of all the things it made apparent. he would often slink against his dark fortress to find a deeper shadow in which to lay.

one evening, he waited until darkness reigned supreme. most of his days thus far had been spent sleeping through it, or he had been too young and feeble to pay attention to anything at all. when the stars came out, he emerged from the safety of the cave's walls to stare at the endless expanse above.

it filled him not with wonder but with familiarity. he took great comfort in them, and his slitted eyes widened to take it all in.
Morgra followed a little behind her brother, curious about what he was doing. She also didn't want to miss out on anything, and outside the den was where all the interesting things happened, or so she had convinced herself.

When she found the last born, he was staring up at the sky. The girl would hobble towards him and try to attack his tail unless he moved or pushed her away.
for a moment, the young boy found himself annoyed. it was a sickly feeling that quickened across his features; his small face scrunched in displeasure as she made her appraoch.

he had come to be left alone.

yet. he knew the stars would always be there, as much as he knew the sun would continue to rise day in and day out. something unnamed and unnknowable, that he was too young to have possibly have recalled let alone attached any feelings to, compelled him to at least tolerate her presence.

in only a blink he had gathered his limbs like small stilts beneath him, making room to sweep his tail beneath his body.  then, he lowered the front half of his body against the stone in invitation.
One second, she had his tail and the next, it was gone. Morgra looked up at him with a frown just as he bent his front half down in a play bow.

The pale girl mirrored his stance and then jumped forward, snapping her sharp little puppy teeth at him. She didn't bother with knowings or feelings yet. Some part of her knew that she was meant for something important but she hardly paid that much attention. When else would she be able to do that other now when nothing was expected of her.

She was perfectly content to pester her grumpy brother into playing with her.
he received no joy from the frown he procured from her, though any guilt he may have felt was quashed before it could even begin.  he was engrossed in watching her copy him, and for a moment he even wondered what else he might be able to get her to do.

these thoughts were quickly dashed.

her milk teeth flashed and caught him by surprise.  he should have made a sound from the way that it stung, though it caught in his throat and carried no more.  thankfully, he was shielded with puppy blubber, and he quickly set about retaliation, aiming for nothing in particular other than the pale girl before him.
She was happy that her attack didn't push him away. Instead he came back with his own. If her bite was painful, it wasn't intentional; she was too young to control the force of her nips. And since he made no complaint about it, she thought nothing of it.

A second later, she felt his teeth in the crook of her neck. Morgra placed her paw on his back and turned her head to try and bite at the ear closest to her.
yoo sry for the wait.  i went to lunch, but i'm back and here until 0200 cst

he quickly became accustomed to her sharp parts,  but did not yet know how to avoid them.  he saw her coming for his ear but still found himself stunned when it folded in her mouth.  almost instinctively, he dropped the side of him that held her weight, releasing their embrace (less the grip she had on his ear).

unable to twist his head to grab anything, he tried to swipe at her legs in an attempt to knock her off-kilter.
nw!

She thought she was victorious. Ptolemy had fallen under her weight. Her teeth snapped with a soft click as his ear slid from her jaws.

But if it was a victory, it was short lived. He kicked at her hind legs, pushing one of them out of her center of balance, which was pretty bad to begin with, and she easily toppled over on top of her brother. Unperturbed, the pale girl slid to the ground beside him and reached for his ear again, set on chewing on it a bit.
a little bit of powerplay here.  i kinda wanted him to get a little notched up.  pls dm me if you want it changed!

this wasn't what he intended.  they were so young that they were practically identical in size and weight, so he found himself pinned beneath her.  he detested this, wheeling his head around only to find the one closest to her was once again between her jaws.

now he was at a loss for what to do.  he reached to gnaw on one of her forelimbs and found that it was just outside of his reach.

the feeling of wetness on one ear and not the other began to drive him mad.  in what could only be described as panic he wrenched the soft flesh from between her sharp teeth, causing it to catch near the tip.  his jaws parted as he pressed that side of his face to the ground, more concerned with running his paws over his ear in an attempt to rid himself of the cold and wet.
fine with me!

Her brother responded differently this time. Now she could sense that she had done something to upset him. It was the first time she had felt her stomach tighten in such a weird and uncomfortable way. She watched him a moment, too in shock to react.

But as he started pawing at the ear, Morgra gingerly placed her paw on him, the frown returning to her face. She wasn't quite sure what had happened but she was certain it was her fault.
his eyes were wild when he looked upon her again.  neurosis had gripped him early and tight. his lips spread into a grimace.  his breathing was erratic until she placed her paw on him, and it was only then that he felt the pain where his flesh had been broken.

his brows pulled together as she frowned again.  he did not want her to be making that face, and he especially did not want her making that face about him.  he did not know what else to do, so he leaned against her affectionately, momentarily exhausted from their play.
The look of pain was new to her too. All she knew was that it made that weird feeling return.

Ptolemy frowned and then leaned against her. She yawned and a soft whine escaped her at the same time. She leaned into him too. If he would let her, she would rest her head on him. It had been a somewhat taxing play time.
though his ear still pounded, his sister was warm and soft and he found himself wanting to be closer.  her presence was a comfort and as she yawned, he found it contagious.  he exchanged his own in return and closed his eyes.  would she remain still, he would quickly find himself asleep.
The three of them had spent much of their time sleeping snuggled together against their mother. So his warmth against her was just as comforting. She had no plans of leaving, especially as she grew more sleepy with each second.

Morgra would fall asleep quickly, head resting on her brother's back, comforted by the rise and fall of his chest.
