There was nothing he could do within the limits of the caldera that didn't make him think of Teya, or Towhee, or the kids - those that lived and those that brewed - and so he left.

To be fair, she'd left him first.

After a few hours of pointless wandering, Reyes had hiked his way up the side of a mountain. The sun was going down; above him only stars, spreading as far as the eye could see, with somnolent birds singing themselves to sleep.

What was he doing here? Hell if he knew. It was a nice view though - of the sky and the valley below. Reyes stood there staring down to the paradise that was the Caldera - even at this distance it was recognizable to him.

And he thought, I'm sorry Teya.

He thought about his father, too.
