someone he hasn't met or spoken with in a while, plz <3

he was in need of a task that would serve the plateau; he mulled this over as he absently tracked a mule deer from her lodgings in the woodlands out into the more open areas, where she would fill her belly with the last of the dormant spring grasses, to bulk her body for the coming winter. he was not in a killing mood, however, and veered off the trail in favor of the crystalline lake.

in time its edges would froth with ice, but for now, taltos stepped down to its bank for a draught of the cold liquid, peering pensively into the shallows at his reflection as water dripped from his chin.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
Falwasi was headed past a lake she had stopped by once before. The sky was plenty of clouds, but the day had been full of sunny spells, sun creeping around the dense white shapes and illuminating the world. She lived for the crispiness of the morning air, but the sun warming her fur - even if it wasn't much - was a summer delicacy she learned to enjoy, especially when the time came to say goodbye to it.

Padding slowly towards the lake to take a drink, Falwasi spotted a dark wolf, who she would've easily mistaken for Kaskara if the stranger was female. The wolf was spying at his reflection in the water, small driblets of water dropping from his chin.

The wolf would soon sense her presence, but he seemed in deep thought, and Falwasi didn't want to disturb his lull. Or maybe she just didn't want to be social, or do the whole 'Hello, I'm Falwasi.' thing. Turning quietly, she sucked in her stomach, as if that would disguise her smell, and roamed stiffly in the direction of the creek.
thanks for joining! <3

he scented the creek before he saw the woman; the fragrance immediately caused resentment to boil within him, for that had been what fox wore prior to her elevation in blacktail deer plateau. fighting down the instinctive bristle of guard hairs, however, taltos turned to regard a lovely wolf, meeting keen eyes that glowed with a knowing light. he was reminded of antha, and the memory caused relaxation to flood his muscles.

"hello," the epsilon said softly, though he made no move to approach her, not yet. while he felt amiable enough, lasher would not overtly invite company — as of late he had felt quite antisocial and reserved.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
The honeyed wolf halted in her tracks as she heard the wolf greet her. Wincing, though not visible as the male as she wasn't facing him, she spun around gracefully. There was a good distance between them, enough to observe and perceive each other properly. Deciding not to close the gap, Falwasi returned his greeting and dipped her head lightly: "Hello." she spoke in a poised tone, pother hinting it that only a perceptive wolf could notice.

Offering no more dialogue, her copper eyes scanned quickly and quietly over the wolf, soon discovering that he did not in fact look like her friend Kaskara. He smelled of the Plateau, and his coloring consisted of various shades whereas Kaskara's was purely chocolate. His eyes were a nebulous blue, and he was tall and rangy, reasonably like her own figure.

she was a lovely dazzle of a creature, and he watched her graceful movements as she turned to face him. but his heart was still heavy after his departure from peregrine and the caldera — while lasher appreciated the woman's beauty, it was not the worshipful affection he had bore siku and tonravik. and so he did not speak himself, muzzle turning slowly to appraise himself once more in the water.

he berated himself for his lack of conversation, but taltos had no words within himself to offer her beauteous visage, so distracted he was contemplating the failures of his own.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
Squinting her eyes as the dark wolf dropped his gaze back to the water, Falwasi took one careful step forward. "What's your name?" she asked in a clear but monotone voice. She didn't take her eyes off the male - he was interesting. The only thing stopping them from moving forward was that he was quiet, and she was standoffish, and the conversation wouldn't go far until it crepitated and spluttered.

The sometimes dismal wolf was prejudiced in the sense that she didn't honestly care what other wolves thought of her... or at least tried not to care. Falwasi wasn't a sensitive soul, and often was a little too hostile for some people's taste. Her sense of humour was dry; amusing and witty, but not the kind you would laugh at. She often quarrelled with wolves like herself, usually due to failing to bite back a comment. And most importantly, she kept her friends close - but she undoubtedly kept her enemies closer.

"i am taltos, also called lasher." he responded to her as a dull, empty roar flooded his ears — he proffered a gentle smile. likewise, he felt also that his lack of want to interact would cause the conversation to sputter and die as so much water upon banked coals. "what is yours?"

it occurred to him to point out that the scent she wore was of the Creek, but that place had spat out a wolf who had caused him much sorrow, and he did not feel it was worth a mention. and so they sat in silence until she presumably answered, though lasher was polite enough to tear himself from the waters and place his attention upon the woman.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
"Taltos..." Falwasi whispered, an indefatigable sound. She liked his name, it simply rolled off your tongue; and it was unique. "What is yours?" Lasher repliqued her question, offering a benign smile. Instead of returning the affable gesture, she swayed her tail from side to side, muscles relaxing further.

"Falwasi." The lissome wolf answered, lifting her head up ever-so-slightly. If their friendship were to engender, she would be suited to the reticent exchanges with the male. Within her pack, Falwasi was more nervous to please her pack mates... to gain their trust and amiability. She had to live amongst them, after all. Sometimes it was easier to harmonize with a stranger - if you got along well, then fantastic. If you didn't get along nicely... well, no harm done. This rule was from an imaginary guideline Falwasi sporadically lived by.
i [mate] her

"falwasi," he repeated, as she had done his own title. "that is exotic." he was normally a verbose beast; she had captured him in a vulnerable moment, but they seemed well-matched enough. an amiable thump of his tail against the bank matched her own.

now he brought to mind her scent; keeping his expression companionable, taltos murmured, "you smell of the creek." a harmless enough comment, if she took it as such. and if she did not, the earthen servant had a charming tongue; he simply did not see its use as presently fitting.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
"That is exotic." Lasher commented after having repeated her name as she had done his. It was indeed a unique name; her family wasn't one for normality. With a thump of his tail, the male changed the subject by regarding her scent. It was not a hostile remark, and she was sure of that for his features were pleasant.

With a slight smirk, she countered: "You smell of the Plateau." Falwasi had not grown up besides many other packs, the only ones surrounding her two days travel. She recognized Swiftcurrent Creek was neutral enough when it came to pack relations, the only exception being the Sunspire wolves - as far as she knew.

"i am its delta," he said softly, though his voice held no desire to flaunt his rank, and even if he had wished such a thing, it was preposterous. their packs held no sway in this otherland near the water, and taltos had never been a creature to brag upon what he had achieved. "exploring?" he posed in an inquiring voice, wondering if she also pursued the outrider trade that junior had procured.

he chided himself for thinking such; why hold a wolf of another pack to a trade that was perhaps only observed by the blacktail wolves? and so he awaited her answer, relaxing himself more openly; she had not threatened him, and he wanted no quarrel.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
Falwasi nodded slowly as the tall male spoke. Since she had joined Swiftcurrent Creek, she held no attention to what her ranking was within the pack. She didn't really care, and had no ambition to climb the ranking ladder. Though leading was one of her natural abilities, the stubborn creature had never put it to use, nor was eager to. People looking up to her worried her, as if she had to carry all their problems as well as hers.

"Exploring?" Taltos asked, interest hinting his tone. Walking forwards to close some distance between them, Falwasi said: "Of some sort." She stopped smoothly a couple of yards away from the male, sitting down. Her visit here had been the most welcoming of the three locations she had visited; perhaps part of it was due to her cold attitude. Pushing away her brooding nature, she decided that she would enjoy the day while it lasted.

unlike his succinct companion, lasher had no head for leading. why trade the warm comforts of a loving body for the cold pedestal of a tyrant? he was a companion by choice, perhaps amusingly by career — the ending to his relationship with peregrine had scarred him deeply, however. it was unlikely he would take another to his bosom again for some time, if ever.

"have you found anything of interest?" taltos purled, murkwater eyes watching the woman as she found a seat nearby. moreso than the waters was falwasi interesting, a welcome distraction from the dark thoughts he had been experiencing before her arrival.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
"I met two wolves in the Heartwood. One of them was slightly... batty." Falwasi looked over the water and snickered gingerly as she reminded herself of Finley's interesting fancy. Reverting her gaze to the male with a tilt of her head, she added: "We chased ghosts." She wouldn't be shocked if Taltos showed any sign of amusement, or any other related emotion; it had indeed been an unusual find in her visit South.

Falwasi mused about what Lasher's thoughts had been occupied by before their interaction. He looked just like she did weeks ago by Duck Lake before Scimitar arrived, though her expression had only been one of nostalgia. Unwilling to perturb him, she asked, "Do you like to explore?" The mottled wolf awaited his response, peace beginning to encroach on her.

her good humour rallied his own; he wondered who she spoke of, though he in recent memory had not meant any wolves fitting the description. to her revelation that they had chased ghosts, his interest became tangible. "and did you find any spirits?" he asked, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

her inquiry elicited a nod. "i do. but lately i have not been fond of leaving the plateau." tail thumped briefly upon the ground. "does the creek recognize outrider as a trade?" he inquired.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
Contented that the male had understood her wisecrack and showed interest in what she said with a smile and a question, she replied, "Unfortunately, no." Falwasi paused for a moment before adding, "Though that would have been a sight to see." Indeed, ghosts? Only a wolf who was extremely lucky, or damned, would be able to come across such a thing, and the she-wolf was neither, apparently.

After she answered his question, Taltos answered hers with a thump of his tail and a counter question. Falwasi hadn't thought much of the outrider trade, but recognized she enjoyed travelling. However the competitive wolf also noticed she had been angling for the warrior or warden trade. Gamekeeper, too. Those would be nice. She mused.

"Yes, it does." Falwasi said, "Though I am not sure whether I would like to earn that trade or not." She finished, voicing her thoughts. "I suppose all the packs perceive the same trades?" She asked then, question hinting the sentence. The sphere of fire had come out again and was warming her back, a peaceful attribute to the day.

"i have my own thoughts on spirits," lasher intoned, though jocularity shone in the reaches of his voice. oh! the tales he wielded were awesome and terrifying, through basic dint of their existence, but he was not a storyteller. "i was intending to seek the role of gamekeeper, which i believe is also a widely recognized trade, but now i do not think i am suited for it."

it was peregrine who had wanted lasher to fit the rank, but now they were no more and the darkpelted man did not believe it was a role he truly desired. he was content with where dante and blue willow placed him among the wolves of blacktail deer plateau — taltos was not a competitive sort, or even ambitious, when it came to such things.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
A lopsided smile danced across Falwasi's face as the dusted wolf informed her that he had his own thoughts on spirits. The she-wolf had an interest in knowing what people thought of rather unusual subjects, and Taltos' tone was confident and animated, proving to her that he actually had something to say. "Oh yeah? And what are those?" She asked facetiously, returning the male's blitheness.

Falwasi had mostly always followed out with everything she chose to do. She never gave up; even if it was the best thing to do. Although the warrior trade was not one she exactly worshipped, she continued to pursue it as that is what she originally wanted to do. 'You have to finish what you started.' Her parents used to tell her, put that way or another. Pushing herself to complete a task was arduous and time spending, but finishing it would put all the negative emotions at ease.

She decided not to prod for more information on why the blue eyed wolf had lost interest in the gamekeeper trade. It would be meddlesome of her, and Falwasi was not particularly intrigued to know why he had dropped the trade. She was more implicated on her initial question.

"ah," lasher lilted, reminded of his two meetings with the girl named bazi. "those are darker visions." yet his eyes danced as he spoke these words, and without hesitation he tucked into the deeper meat of his tale. "they are all about us; they roam the day as well as the night. i myself was believed to be spirit," taltos explained, shamelessly meeting falwasi's pointed gaze. "you see now that i am tangible, flesh and blood, but once, i am told, i was not. i was not always this man, but a wielder of storms and rain, to lash the backs and bodies of those who sought to hurt the witches i loved."

"it was from suzanne, my first witch, that i received the name. she brought me into being, and if it was from the tempest that i was born, or if she birthed me into the world and suckled me as any other mother might suckle her infant, i do not know." his eyelids had fallen to half-mast as he spoke; falwasi continued to exist, but it was upon the fringes of his consciousness, and taltos spoke as if to himself.

"i do recall the squalls, the trees broken by the wind's force. it seems my earliest memory was one of storm, and rain, and violence wrought by nature's hand. if i am a spirit, then i have been made corporeal for a reason — and if i never was, i hold a spirit's memory, surely."

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
100th post!!! <3

The slender she-wolf listened intently to what Taltos was saying, a glint in her eye that did not betray her actions. She genuinely was engrossed in the words that the steely orbed wolf was speaking, and Falwasi did not try to disguise it.

The dark male was clearly knowledgeable on the subject — the detail in which he spoke in was profound, and there was one word that Falwasi had heard of once of twice before... in myths. "A witch?" She breathed, eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "I have only heard of those in tales." The girl clarified, more for herself rather than for Taltos. She had never believed in witches, and she now found it hard to accept that the male was being deliberate about it.

Then Lasher explained to the grizzled wolf that there must have been a reason for him being given a body, and if there wasn't, he absolutely held a spirit's memory. He was 'a wielder of storms and rain', as he put it. It was slightly bizarre, and if Falwasi thought it was difficult to try and understand him then, it was even more challenging now. She was a 'seeing is believing' kind of wolf, and once she saw with her own eyes, understanding came to her easily. As Taltos spoke, he seemed to doze off slightly, giving Falwasi a chance to process it all. And then it suddenly hit her, as to why the two subjects — spirits and witches — were related.

"Witches subpoena the spirits..." She said quietly, a mix of a whisper and a mumble. Again, she was confirming more for herself rather than for her compeer.
yay! congrats!

he nodded. "yes." they had summoned him; only julien had been able to quell his wrath at being brought forth time and time again. "i assure you, witches are quite existent, and they reside in all places." he tilted his head for a moment, then resumed how he had been. "dear falwasi, you mustn't be taken by the sound of the word 'witch.' they are not as the ignorant assume; witches are just as gentle and kind as any other creature."

lasher had never liked the stigma associated with those he loved; it had resulted in increased violence against them, and he had killed many for laying hands upon his witches. they had been a powerful lot, but only mary beth had been of a cruel sort.

"perhaps you are, and do not know it," lasher suggested with a sudden flash of bright interest in the creek wolfess.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
The tall wolf, who proved to be more interesting than she thought him to be, explained to her that witches were not at all bad, that they were just as compassionate and gentle as the next being. Falwasi found that hard to believe. If they were selfish enough to allow Taltos to hurt those that tried to harm them, they could not have been any better than their opposers.

Then, the dark male suggested that she, Falwasi, could be a witch herself. The narrow-minded wolf snickered slightly; she was not mocking Lasher, she was more mocking the fact that she could be a witch. "No no no," she said with a shy smile on her lips as she shook her head, "I don't think so." Falwasi paused for a long moment, "I think I would already know," she added.

Somehow, the male's statement had gotten under her skin. Falwasi did not want to be a witch, and even though she knew she was not, the fact that another wolf could even think that she was worried her slightly. The girl did not want to be any more than a normal wolf; she wanted to be equal to her peers. And that, is what she intended to be.

it seemed mere talk of witches caused deep apprehension in those who did not understand, and lasher gave a slow nod, deciding not to speak of it again. rising from his perch along the bank, a low grunt unfurled from his throat as he stretched muscles cramped by cold and lack of movement. "from where did you receive your name? what does it mean?"

he meant not to be pointed, but to draw falwasi's attention from his earlier statement, which may have been unnerving for her. quietly he waited, head tilted in curiosity as he awaited her answer.

<style type="text/css">.lasher1 {width: 380px; background-image:url('http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/kiba_in_paradise/lasher1.png'); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#e4ebf6; border:1px solid #9f95b5; padding-top:200px; margin:auto; }.lasher2 {color:#9f95b5; font-family:georgia; width:370px; border-top:none; margin:auto; border-bottom:none;}.lasher2 p {text-indent:25px; padding:0px 5px;}.lasher2 b {color:#6e8bbc; font-weight:normal; text-shadow:0px 0px 0px #000000;}</style>
The honeyed wolf took small breath of relief as Taltos backed off on the supernatural subject. Falwasi could only go so long without losing her temper, even if it was a simple facial expression. So when the male asked her where she had gotten her name from, and what it meant, she stood up a little bit, willing to answer his question.

"My parents... they weren't exactly the traditional type," she said, wincing at the word 'were'. It still caused a small twinge of pain in her heart. "I was named after the fallow deer." the doe explained, refraining to add the other half of her name. She wasn't particularly keen on telling people she was also named after a Swiss goat.

Falwasi soon thought of her brother, Zephyr, who's name signified the wind. "Do you have any siblings?" she asked, because of the memories of her brother that flooded back to her. The she-wolf already knew that Taltos did not have parents — like he said, he was born of his 'Suzanne'. Perhaps he had brothers or sisters, or at least creatures that had been in the same situation as him.

lasher smiled with interest. " a fallow deer," he repeated; she certainly moved with the grace of the sure-footed creatures. he wondered in what tongue the name found its origin, but thought better of asking. "i do not, no," the man answered — none that he could recall. suzanne was not a mother to many, if memory served.

peregrine's face swam unbidden into his mind; taltos clenched his jaw and glanced away for a moment. "does bazi lead you?" he asked on a whim, recalling his last meeting with the pale, flighty girl.
