Veteran had been an Iota in Atautsikut for far to long, putting off the decision that his mother had placed before him at the pack meeting three moons past. The others Iotas had moved on, it seemed: Wayfarer, Ensio and Arius had been gone for weeks. Even Heda was nowhere to be found. Still, Veteran waited for.. something. Some sign to let him know whether he should remain or seek his destiny somewhere else.
The sign came suddenly, although hardly unexpectedly. Tuuluuwaq and I are pregnant. Lane's happy announcement had delighted Veteran, and yet, when he was alone with his thoughts, it echoed though him and made him restless. As much as he wanted to meet his siblings and be a big brother, the news had sounded a ringing instinct within him to make himself scarce and give Lane space with her new pups. He didn't know if this meant that he needed to disperse permanently; he only knew that he needed to take the time outside the pack that Lane had offered.
He had said his goodbyes to Tuuluuwaq and Lane, and then @Issorartuyok-- that one had been particularly difficult. He had looked for @Heda too, but couldn't find her. Instead, he left his message for her with Issorartuyok: she was welcome to come find him and join him in his travels, as long as she could keep up. Veteran smiled, wondering if the challenge would tempt her.
His farewells behind him, Veteran walking toward the setting sun, setting his course for the only direction that would lead toward what was truly unknown to him.
