It was good that this pack had an expected structure. Fennec couldn't entirely isolate in the way she usually did, but today, listened to the sparse birdsong as morning continued without rising. Eventually she would go gather supplies in the southern part of the canyon - but not yet.

She'd heard Bronco's call, when he visited. She never wanted to speak to, or be near, him again - and it seemed that feeling was mutual. He really had just gotten what he wanted from her and then tossed her out, hadn't he? She'd given him a son, and that was apparently all the use she had. She'd thought she knew this, but hearing his call... it twisted the knife again.

She should be happy that her son still had his father in his life. She wasn't. She should have let him disappear when he wanted to the first time. Then she could have shown him to Killdeer for the coward he was and let her son be done with it. He was going to let him down eventually... she knew it. She didn't know if Bronco was capable of honesty -or of the kind of love Killdeer deserved.

She stayed where she was, festering in it silently. The fact that she could still feel this hurt, even after everything, had her angry with herself too. She wanted to move on. She just didn't know how.
