For @Maiken! <3 Set for today 2/28/23 if that's ok?

It would be a full year since her birth soon.
Tomorrow, in fact.
Sovereign didn't note this save for the acknowledgement that she wasn't as small as she was even a mere few months ago; In her mind, she had other things to worry about.

Like helping to provide for the Lake pack she had joined with Ensio...
And the lingering question on if Hildibrandr was truly lost to the wind...
What of Adlartok?
What of Maiken?

The yearling shook her head with a dull whine as she patrolled around the part of the Meadow closer to the Greatwater, but far enough out from the claim that she might not be immediately noticeable to her packmates.
Sov paused in her stride long enough to let out a sharp sneeze, and continued on, keeping an eye out for other wolves and potentially prey, especially where it seemed the caches would still need filled, or even made, where Sov hadn't found any herself so far...

A deep exhale from the mouth of the yearling now, as she stopped again to observe her surroundings again.
That's fine.

She had been staying on the outskirts of the Deep weald as she healed, but now that she was better, she moved from one place to the other. A white wolf caught her eyes and she stood for a moment, indecision warring with her. If it indeed wa sthe war queen or her daughter, did she wish to open that wound so quickly.

However, the girl was young. She had not known any better and Maiken had liked her mother all teh same. So with mincing steps and careful expression. She let out a loose chuff and then waited to see if it was truly who she thought or if she must run.
A chuff from some direction pulled her attention to the small frame of a black wolf.
Sovereign tilted her head slightly and chuffed back in response, trailing somewhat closer to them and yet keeping a respectful distance.

Closer, and then recognition.

Sov blinked with widened eyes in obvious surprise before she uttered, inquisitively "Maiken?"
Her tail wagged at her heels a couple times, hopeful.
A soft dip of head and a little wag of tail and Maiken moved forward, brown eyes assessing and looking all around. Making sure that no one else was near. Her wounds were scars now, faded beneath black fur. Though small could still be seen, but they blended well with the other scars she had borne.

Hello Lady Sovereign She spoke softly with a smile.
The yearling felt the tightening of her chest, the constricting of her heart as she inquired the one thing she wanted to know the most -

"There is nothing left of Hildibrandr...is there..."
Sov hoped to be told that Hildibrandr still stood, awaiting her return...
But the other part of her murmured what she thought she already knew.
A sadness grew in the healers eyes and she shook her head. Nothing. The general is gone, he is gone. Adlartok died giving all of us a chance to run. I could not even go back to bury him, they stayed there for days. I fought, but there were too many I could not save your claim. I am sorry Princess. We tried.

Maiken's eyes deepened at the thought. She had bled for the land, chunks of her lay there. Adlartok's bady would molder and decay there. She had tried. She lifted her head.

I will be returning in spring to gather what herbs and gardens I can. Grow it elsewhere perhaps.
Sovereign felt an icy spear sear straight through her chest as Maiken told her of what had happened.
Adlartok, dead.
Papa was gone

Sov felt the urge to cry, underneath the cold enclosing her shocked heart.
She could almost hear herself screaming on the inside and the pain, unbeknownst to her, showed all too clearly in her amber gaze.

Yet the rest of her face, stone.

The princess shook her head softly at Maiken's apologies, "Hildibrandr being lost to the wind is not your fault, nor Papa's."
She knew it was all hers.
Her mother's too, perhaps, though the reality of such a thing had yet to fully settle on her.
"I would offer to return with you, but..." The yearling glanced over her shoulder, towards the vast Lake that could be seen glinting in the distance from the light of the sky.
"A friend I made when I was younger, he helped me get into a pack that's forming on the Lake, that way...I do not know if I would be welcomed back if I were to make the journey."
The girl was damaged. It was clear by the way she held herself. But Maiken could see the pain there. IF she didn't allow herself to grieve and feel that pain, she wouldn't heal. It bothered the healer of course, but this time. She was unsure if she could help heal this.

Maiken smiled softly. You don't need too. Maiken moved a little closer and touched the girls shoulder if she'd allow.

Sweet child. Try and start over, learn from it. Try and heal and give yourself time. This was a hard thing you went through.

The assurance that she needn't return with Maiken to the Strath was more needed than she thought, which showed in the ever-slight relaxation of her pale body.
Then, the healer was stepping forward to touch her shoulder.

Sovereign smiled softly as Maiken seemed to support the yearling's start-over in life, to learn from her wrongs.
The girl offered her own touch to the dark-furred woman if she would have it.

Maybe this was goodbye...

So, the Princess would murmur "Måtte gudene velsigne din vei" (May the Gods bless your path)
She should probably be returning to the Lake, Ensio would not allow her to be fully alone for much longer.
She would tell him of this, though.
That is what I often use.

Maiken was not a fool. She understood the girl would carry much guilt, but she was also young. And the need to distance yourself from what she had been through. She could see that too.

It wasn't a goodbye. Maiken was sure she'd see her again, but not for a time. So it was simply a see you later. She accepted the touch and smiled at the pale furred girl.

She dipped her head. And you. then she would motion for the girl to return. She would watch her to be sure she was safe, before she too took her leave.
