@Dagur. @Sadey. @Lonesome Dove.
colt led them west to a promised land.
cascading waterfalls, tiered up into the cleft of a mountain. evergreen scattered thickly.
steadily he had become aware of lonesome's condition, saying nothing as a man might but ensuring twice as many bites at dinner belonged to her.
"spread out," he grunted, eyeing the unfamiliar terrain. "gotta say we're the only ones here b'fore we settle."
colt flicked his tail and set out to set a borderline.
She stayed rather slender.

There was nothing to tell of her growing pregnancy besides the yacking she did in the morning.

The space she got away from the mountains settled her, in some way. She began to look less loony, settling into her skin, this new skin that felt like it didn’t belong to her.

She would never know what killed Lonesome Dove in that cave, nor what had taken her place for those weeks, but she was alive, blessedly alive, melding and shaping with every touch of her feet to the outside. Though, she knew, she would be back.

The small gods demanded it. Demanded that she bring forth her children there, in those caves where someone died and someone lived.

She watched as Colt made to move away from them, then she marched off herself, towards the water. Then, veering perpendicular to it, she made for the falls, hoping there was something there to find before she would go herb hunting for the rest of spring.

And, she hoped, come back with the small gods vessel by summer.
Sadey couldn't quite let the thought of Lonesome having pups sit right with her. There was just something to it, that bothered her a little bit. Perhaps it was that he had straight out told her she couldn't, but hadn't with Lonesome and she hadn't needed permission she could have gone out on her own anyway. She sighed and helped to them to do what needed done. Made sure Lonesome was taken care of, but mostly she existed in silence.

Moving through the motions of the current life she was in.
changes to scent. the sick thought he'd found.
but what did he fuckin' know?
colt wasn't cut out to be no pa.
so he chose to ignore all of it and instead grunted for sadey to go with lonesome. "if she's sick she'll need protection," he decided. "when she comes out of it, we kin really settle."
there was no other options. womenfolk were touched in the mind this time of year, and colt would still seek to feed them both while he could.
