Etienne moved further South East. His paws had grown tougher on the bottom than they had been. And he no longer smelled of the sea. Now he smelled of bracken and loam. Of dark soil and trees. Of the rivers that flowed so easily through the small areas he had traveled. And yet he missed the loud crash of the ocean and he missed his mother and his sister. But he also hated home. He hated that the ocean kept taking. That the little beach kept stealing. That bears came and disrupted his family. That age took away his granme a little bit at a time.

Though when it was cold and dark at night and he was all alone. He wished for Theo and Suzu. He wished for manman. He thought of his younger sisters, who would probably no longer remember him. They probably forgot him a little bit each day as Granme had begun to do. It only made sense and he hoped they did. Only because he couldn't bear to think that he had hurt any of them.

His head still hurt. Branches and burrs and all sorts of other things coated his once downy fur. His ear was constantly bleeding as he constantly ran it along a tree without realizing it was there. The tears still ran staining the mask around his face. Matting it with salt and grime and the little pieces of skin and dust that built up when you were sleeping. He looked a fright and he didn't care.
