For @Ensio <333 Located around the edges of Redsand Canyon, headed towards Arrow Lake :)
Backdated to sunrise of 6/25/2023

Sovereign had made the trek from the depths of the canyon in peace.
But, now, she wondered upon the presence of Ensio...she had not seen him much when Tikal was present.
The yearling paused in her steps, looking over her shoulder into the warm-toned terrain.
Was he coming?
Would he catch up if she didn't wait?

No, no, she couldn't do that.
She made a promise, after all!

The pale girl turned then and trotted the many, many yards back to the crisp edges of the Canyon, stopping at the first sharp drop to let out a howl in hopes Ensio would answer, if not with his own howl then with his presence, if not both.

She would wait for him, unmoving from her stony perch as a hopeful golden gaze searched the stones for her companion.
His booming howl echoed and bounced off the now distant canyon walls. An immediate reply to her own. Of course he was coming. He would never leave her behind.

During his time in Tikal, the Duskfire male had made himself scarce with good reason. He had been suspicious. Skeptical of them. He kept his distance, observing like a silent ghost. Judging. He was a wolf who tried to listen to his gut instinct. But numerous letdowns weaved in his past had made him paranoid. Reluctant to trust.

As he watched Tikal fall apart and vanish into the dust, his suspicions were validated. His shallow opinion and lack of faith in others, proven.

Only Sovereign mattered. Only she, he trusted with every fiber of his being. He had made a pledge to her long ago. He would be the one constant in her life.

When he crested over the last few stepping stones that led to her perch, it was with lips drawn back to brandish his teeth. He glared back over his shoulder, spatting crudely in the direction from which they came. "Good riddens. The lot of them weren't fully invested in what they had built anyways." He took a breath to steady his temper. "So, where to now? Surely there are greener pastures than that."
Sovereign smiled to herself at Ensio's immediate response.
Her joy crept into a bit bigger of a grin, a light chuckle to follow as her companion spat behind himself with what she registered as disdain.

To his question, the princess began to move at a leisurely prowl, in the direction of the Lake to the East.
"We go east. Hopefully there, there is somewhere or something for us this time."
She glanced towards him, face an open invitation for his input on the matter.
She wouldn't wave him away if he had any better ideas to share.
"East huh." He murmured aloud. His lips pursed in a contemplative line, defined brows pinched. "Haven't been back that way in a long time. My birthplace is that way...well more towards the northeast." He explained. Ensio didn't care to linger on that subject long. The Glacier would be close but not too close.

He wasn't ready to head back there yet. It was too soon. Maybe in a year or two, he would re-visit his home, depending on how he felt. "I wonder what we will find out that way. What has changed and what hasn't." His voice was thoughtful. A teeny bit hopeful too.

He swayed to the side, easily enough to bump up against the solid structure of her frame, in a friendly way. He smiled. "But whatever may be in store for us, you are stuck with me, like I promised."
The yearling listened to Ensio's words, as shown by the turn of her ear in his direction and the occasional glance.
She thought to ask about it, but decided not to.
Maybe in the future, though, when their respective wounds weren't so raw.

I wonder what we will find out that way. What's changed, and what hasn't.

"I think we'll find opportunity." The princess responded, albeit a bit more hopeful and certain than she really felt, as if it would make them both feel better about needing to relocate again.
"Maybe if we don't vibe with any potential packs out this way, we could start our own." Sovereign suggested with a shrug of her young shoulders, a soft smile on her face to boot, especially as Ensio bumped her shoulder with his own.

"But whatever may be in store for us, you are stuck with me, like I promised."

The pale girl beamed a considerable amount brighter, returning his bump with her own.
"You're stuck with me too, y'know." She offered back, meeting his gaze for all of a brief second to try and solidify that she meant it.

She knew he meant it too.
