each day val did his best to bring a fresh meal to @Mireille. if there was enough, he often brought what he could to @chacal. his hunting expeditions were meager, and while the ocean boasted all manner of lifeforms to prey upon, val avoided the beach.
the puppies were growing. the den clamored with life, and his life clamored with them. soon they would foray past the den and out into the world — a world val did not trust would be kind to them.
today he brought hare and napped by the bed of the den’s threshold. he wondered how long before their little voices would demand freedom, how long before he would walk them among the ancient and ageless sequoias, how long before he would lose them, too.
