Tan pelage broken by brown legs and face, slipped through the undergrowth. There was no rhyme or reason to his movements on this day. Just general observation and study. He found himself upon the borders leaving water, scratching marks into trees. Just going about the movements with sleepy eyes. Mind million miles away, but at least there were no tears. He hadn't cried in a couple of days, unless he did in his sleep. Now he thought of his granme with fondness and though he missed her, he was able to realize that this was probably what she wanted, and it had been enough. She had lived a long, prosperous life and without her lady love. Well Etienne imagined she had been unhappy and scared.

He thought of his siblings then, betting Theo was still hunting and Suzu was taking care of their younger siblings and it hurt. Gods did it hurt, and yet he felt apart from it all. As if the pain wasn't his. Perhaps it was his way of compartmentalizing it all. Or maybe he hadn't fully felt it yet. He didn't know, but he did know he was doing the best that he could without them. Though his breath caught as he thought of Chani and Chiro. He missed them so very much. He hadn't been as close to the little orphans Suzu had brought home.
