This time, Meerkat brought her family along with her. She hoped to show @Njord, @Orca II and Seal Two Eyes Cenote, though she knew they needed to make a scenic detour to the meadow. The girls would surely enjoy seeing the bursts of bold, bright colors against the otherwise arid palette.

While her husband and daughters busied themselves exploring the native flora, Meerkat wandered eastward, keeping an eye out for her newest friend. Perhaps S’ari would like to join her family and repeat their adventurous day at the duplexed grotto.

zoug had been hunting. frequent fruitless rushes through the dust outside the meadow had at last turned him toward it.

but thankfully he saw their larger shapes and stopped.

to him this was proof the wolves intended to settle here. and where wolves settled, they expanded.

zoug went away quickly, heading in a direction both opposite the meadow and the ravine.

She realized she was straying quite far from her family, so Meerkat turned to double back. She paused when she realized she could see the top of the caldera in the distance, just over the treetops of Haunted Wood. Her tail flicked before her gaze dropped somewhat, focusing on the familiar shapes of her three family members.

Completely unaware of the coyote somewhere behind her, Meerkat trotted back toward Njord and the girls and said, Do you see that mountain, just over the trees? You can just barely see the top of it, it’s flat. That’s where your Grandma Towhee was born.

A different pack lived there now, of course. She thought briefly of Bronco, though she made no mention of it. Instead, Meerkat turned her attention to some sort of bright cactus Seal had discovered. Apparently she wanted to dig it up and take it home with them, she just didn’t know how to do any of that without pricking herself on its glochidia.
