he'd escaped the heat of desert and found the cool touch of shade. it was here he rest and recover, the canopy of leaves offering a comfort to the drained man. he'd found water in a small stream, and a meal in a fox kit that had wandered too far from it's den. after both came slumber, and he tucked himself between roots and brush to sleep off the fatigue of travel.

sleep enveloped him like a blanket.

he woke the next day rejuvenated, whole again. he rose from his place of rest to stretch stiff muscles and relieve himself. and then he went about his day as expected of a vagrant, wandering off in every which way in search of the next curious thing he could find.
Change had never been a part of her life until the last few months. Her entire existence had been routine and lackadaisical, revolving around the concept of family and friends and all that disgusting warm hearted nonsense that she'd never entirely bought into. Yeah, family was great and all, but what about adventure? What about tasting the unknown and living a little? Mikasa hadn't understood her family's obsession with lurking behind their bubble until she'd left its safety, the first of many changes she had set into motion. The domino effect of that cataclysmic choice still made her wake in a panic, ears drawn forward and eyes scanning for the monster in her dreams.

She had decided days ago that she wasn't a fan of change after all. Returning home was not an option after the bridges she had burned; even if the desire was there, her pride would not allow her. Mikasa was not some sniveling whelp to return home with her tail tucked and suffer the embarrassment at being pitied by her family. No, she would just force herself to find something worthwhile. Something that would make all of it worth it; naturally, she hadn't a clue what that was.

She certainly wouldn't figure it out lazing around, however.[size=small]

It didn't take long for her to catch a glimpse of another among the pines and despite her recent history, she was far too curious for her own good. Mikasa woofed a soft greeting and gave a few amicable wags of her tail, eager to meet a local of this strange new land- if he even was one.

his pace was steady as he went, breath fell to a rhythm and his body moved in whole harmony. he lacked a runner's physique, but that did not slow him in his motion. well ventured, experience carried him more often than limbs did, and it was with this practice that he weaved himself through forest and brush.

scent reached him before sound did, and he slowed his stride to greet the stranger. ears swiveled atop his crown at her greeting, to which he answered with a dip of his snout and a chipper, "hello!"
