six months.
chani broached the dark water beneath the seacliffs and rose with a playful sputter. she doused herself again, and a second time, testing how deep she could let herself swim before the need for air forced her back.
she came down here to indulge herself away from the prying little eyes of baby cousins who might try to do what she did.
chani was as erzulie might have been when it came to the sea: fearless.
fearlessness led her to arrogance, though the girl hardly paid mind to that.
The sea was a familiar companion to the thief. A different time and place, a different stretch of coast, but out there among the waves it was all the same. Nirali came as close to the water's edge as she dared, settling just beyond where the tide lapped thinly at the sands as it stretched toward the land, and settled in to enjoy her meal; stolen from a lone wolf she'd run across on her way to the shore.

She watched the waves as she ate. After a time she caught a glimpse of something among the waves, something red and gold and flickering with familiar movement. Wolven, she guessed, ears flicking forward. But Nirali said nothing for now. She continued to eat in silence, watching the wolf.
after the sixth duck, chani felt herself growing more tired, and by the eighth she could scarcely lift her legs to swim back. but back she went, washing lazily onto the shore as if she were a jellyfish or an eel. a little laugh took her, yet when chani sat up, it cut off at once.
she was on her feet, streaming; her eyes were not hard but curious. the stranger was a woman, which at once put the girl more at ease, though she did not come close. "bonjour," chani mumbled.
The girl came to shore in a slow, lazy sort of way; she clearly hadn't noticed that she was being watched. Nirali kept her amusement to herself, but when the youth startled to finally see her, it took all of her willpower to keep from bursting into laughter. Instead she smirked at the girl and her greeting in French. That was funny. French wolves by the sea.

Hey, kid. Wanna buy some drugs? Nirali toyed with one of the bones leftover from her meal, never taking her eyes off the younger wolf. Too young to know anything useful, she figured, so she wouldn't bother trying to make friends.
omg im so sorry <3

drugs? chani's nape prickled, lifting. she backed away several feet and glowered at the woman. "weird one," the girl muttered, giving her a wide berth despite the fact she was clearly intrigued. "what are drugs?"
she tried to remain openly skeptical and dismissive, eyes betraying her intense interest in how oddly she had been greeted.
No worries ever <3
What are drugs?

Nirali blinked once, then laughed aloud. You don't wanna know. Feel lucky you don't already, She advised, standing and brushing some of the sand from her fur. You live around here? A single glance was cast toward the cliffs neighboring the sound, then in the opposite direction. What Nirali wanted to know was who the hell was letting their kid roam around unsupervised. What is this, a Walmart?

Lucky for little red, she had no interest in child snatching. Just food snatching.
the woman was quick and apt and chani did not like how quickly she had been sussed out.
her chest swelled; she stepped forward. "if i did, you be way too close," she warned with a child's boldness.
her mother and sisters and aunts were there; this one would not dare touch a hair on her pelt. the bright eyes blazed, and she looked down her nose at the weird wolf, channeling for a moment a grandmother she had not met.
