Full Version: Retiring characters vs death?

Just curious, I know in some other roleplay groups there is an option to retire an active character after you feel they’ve lived a life and don’t want to see them dead.

Is that a possibility here? Once my main wolf Greyfalcon has lived a long satisfying life, I’d rather not make her leave the Teekons or die of old age.

Once that time comes, may I just put her as NPC or something and retire her?
We don’t really offer that for the same reason we don’t allow a few other things - site continuity for other players.  Having a character that may or may not be present in the background of a territory could break timelines in a lot of ways.  It’s a problem we see even with NPCs currently, and it is one of the reasons that I think time-limited NPCs were a popular choice.

That being said, we have had many mannnyyy characters retire off-site.  There are packs offsite that are frequently referenced, and when characters leave the game for a time, they can be used as an explanation or temporary location for them to travel to!  We even have a wiki that you can create the offsite pack on and share details about it. (I don’t have the link on hand since I’m mobile, but it might be somewhere pinned)

Those character’s kids will sometimes show up as well.  It’s totally fine for a character to live forever off-site, but on-site we don’t allow it for continuity sake

Okay, not quite the response I wanted to hear, but thank you.

Makes sense kinda….
On another topic, is there a way to delete a character you’re no longer using? I have this one character who went inactive and I don’t see myself using her here.
Even if she dies in game, it doesn’t mean she canonically dead? Is that what you mean by live forever off site?
Basically, she would never die on-site because she would go inactive/leave the territories before she died of old age.  For example, Vienna was a character who I played ages ago who went inactive.  I never brought her back and just assumed she continued living offsite and had kids - one of whom I eventually made (as a 2 year old adult) and brought into the game.

Edit: we don’t really delete characters all that often! I don’t see why not if they have 0 posts, but you can also update the account’s name/profile/etc and just change them to a different character too. If you really want it deleted, though, you can always request that in maintenance

Oohhh, okay! That makes a lot of sense now. So she could go inactive? I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

Okay, I’ll try that with said character instead. And if they still don’t get anywhere I’ll consider that request.

Thank you so much for your help and patience. I am a relatively new role player when it comes to role-playing with other people on big communities

Would you be able to reactivate this character? Or would I go to maintenance for that too?
