As time went on, the days began to become colder, with no mercy. Every morning, right with the sun, John would move swiftly along the borders of the territory. He marked boundaries, in which he traded this task off with Heda, at an attempt to claim the land they had, and he was proud to do it. He constantly kept moving, as he could feel the bitter cold seeping through his winter coat and chilling his bones. When Heda would mark the borders, he would take her task of hunting. Most of what they caught were small to medium sized game, carrion, and the occasional deer.

On this day, he had finished marking what he could, and found a quiet place within their temporary den to pray. He counseled with God, filling Him on their needs, and thanking Him for what was provided. These types of communions helped keep John grounded, at peace. At the end of each prayer, he felt a calmness wash over him. As long as God kept his heart beating, he would continue to serve Him.

From that point on, he just mingled there in the den. Lay down for a while, warm his body back up.
