the plains became craggy hills with naked trees as cover, and blustering snow. maplesmoke did not wait for either mare to follow him. he wanted to explore. he wanted most to be away from the bison and wolf, and found a trail which snaked alongside the water.

it was more dangerous here because he could not see far, and the river which carved its way through the countryside had a steady pulse, even with ice scaling its outer edges. the stallion crept warily along, all the same. he snacked on frozen twigs and snapped them free with his teeth, munching as he walked.
things had gotten... heated in rising sun valley. whatever slander his rotten ex has been spreading had, apparently, grown in viciousness to the point where yonder now nursed bald patches from a few bad encounters. you'd think he molested eggs through the shell, just by the looks he got trying to make small talk!

wind to it, he'll do it all away from them! the mountains were frightening to cross, sure, - his heart still pounded - but yonder wholly believed he could find success living past them.

the young, weary raven descended onto a branch in a flurry of feathers. rest. he got to stretching his underused legs and easing the flightburn in his chest.

yes, he noticed the big horse coming his way, but the raven was a bit busy remembering what it felt like to perch.
