The ocean had roared its fury upon them. The land bridge had opened to them a path, and the water of Sweetharbor threatened to bury it by every minute they stood on it. Nakano pushed ahead, God be merciful, with a still might and bending knees. "We are almost through!" he urged. They would make it! They would make it!
New life was abundant before them with every step of the way. Scents of new and history written that neither of them knew. Bountiful sea life in this cold. In the distance, trees lined the dry sands in a thick wall!
He dragged out of the water for the second time in his life, and in that time, he remembered the face of Malakai being there in his awakening. He remembered @Widow whisking life back into him through words alone. He remembered the safety of the island.
The time had come to break that shell, but he would cherish those memories in eternal.
Kai coughed up salt water as an ocean wave crashed onto (and over) the land bridge to their island home. Soon to be not home. Nakano's voice rang out over the waves.

It was as though the island was doing its best to pull him back, yanking his legs and threatening to drag him under. Reluctantly, Malakai pursed forward.

When they arrived to the mainland, Nakano's eyes set to it- the forest, the sea lions. Meanwhile, Kai's sun and moon gaze turned back to home. It belonged only to Psalm now.
Home was no longer keeping them alive. Sweetharbor was not alive. But he and Malakai would live. Nakano would make sure of it.

He reached his nose for the sky and took deep breaths to awaken his mind once more. "Do you remember the scent of this woman? Of Moontide?" Though it would slaughter him to say aloud-- they needed-- help. A leap of faith of something he was not sure they should be faithful in. If God made no mistakes, then the woman Malakai met was no error. They must try.
I do. Malakai spoke as he nodded, forcing his gaze away from the island and to attention. He stepped up towards Nakano's side, sniffing the breeze. @Heph had a coat that smelt of the sea, so their home was near it. This, at least, brought a comfort to Malakai. Maybe he would not be too far from what he knew.

They live on a rise of land, with a flat top. It is to the west. That is all he knew, but hopefully it was enough to get them going in the right direction.
