On the road downwards, all the way to the Herbalist’s cache, Nivis got quite exhausted. He wasn’t used to traveling and usually went to the locations that were closer to the ones he left however that wasn’t the case this time. With Reyna by his side, rushing him forward, he finally stopped.

The moon was high up on the sky and even though they were both active at night, Nivis got lazy to top it of. Starving.

“Hear that? That’s my stomach grumbling.” He announced, sniffing. Bring me something to eat, I am laying down.”
reyna stops dead in her tracks when she hears the sound of a thud and the crunch of snow that followed it. she stands still, and glances back at the source when it grumbles at her for food.

me? less of a question and more a tactic to intimidate. ..i'm no huntress nor gatherer, dear. she hisses. if you want elk then use your nose. if i did find food i wouldn't be able drag it to you anyways.

her own stomach growled at her, agreeing with nivis for the search for food. she caught a whiff of a carcass earlier, but she thought herself refined for something like rotten food — where the blood is no longer a brilliant crimson but muddy brown. but now, she is forced to. this world is cruel.
A freshly born lamb or a fat sheep with no leg broken would be better if you ask me.” Nivis huffed in response. Yawning as the usual with his tongue out he rolled onto back, staring at Reyna. Not a puppy or in a playful mood, just bored out of his mind and forcing the woman of his dreams to bring him something fresh to eat by providing a view of cuteness.

“If you don’t want to hunt however, you shall satisfy yourself with the food of poor then. An old doe, two weeks to be exact. About an half of a kilometer away from us. Seemingly some remains but still too little of meat perhaps. Your dinner.”
reyna wishes looks could kill. she just wishes to watch his head burst — as beautiful red ribbons turns a handsome man into a masterpiece of flesh and fur. but no, the worst she could do is snarl at him enough to express her annoyance.

what're you even talking about — sheep? did you eat the wrong type of berry?

she grunts before heading in the direction of the carcass the doe is yours too, though you deserve only its bones to knaw on.
Ah, you women… Nivis chuckled and lifted himself up from where he laid. His tongue was no longer sticking out to bless him with the mighty appearance in front of her little self.

Tall Reyna was though, so tall he had to stand up on his tip toes to lick the underside of her muzzle. So moody you are Reyna, and only because your belly is grumbling out of hunger. What are you my dear in mood for?

Kissing her little by connecting their wet noses, Nivis sighed. Females and especially those in heat or pregnant ones, hungry ones; those used to be the source of unholy anger, which he didn’t like to test most of the time. Lambs are from the land forbidden, their meat melts on your tongue and their blood could heal your thirst as well. They are so innocent, small and easy to catch. They are foolish too; you’d like them, Reyna. Unfortunately you are stuck with a poor deer and bones yourself however.
quiet, sexist. she chuffs. this is partly why you were banished. and yet she still walks alongside him.

even when he babbles about imaginary creatures like "lambs," whatever that could be.
if i'm to eat something then i'd like for it to be real and not fantasy.
she really is irritable — moody as her dear puts it. spring is dawning any time now and she is hungry, so maybe nivis isn't too far off. but that thought annoyed her, so she tossed it aside.
You are no better than me, Reyna. You ran away to see me so that in fact makes you equally as bad as I am. Nivis serioused, frowning when he stood in front of her face. She didn’t seem to be pleased by it; the corners of her mouth twitched a little.

Then Nivis licked her again, tracking down the scent of the doe so they could follow the path it came from.

It’s not my problem that you don’t believe me because of your limited knowledge your family and pack is the cause of. Maybe it’s better you aren’t locked inside anymore, he thought. Since you cannot hunt then because of being a lame bitch and I am sooo good and nice to you, follow me then. I’ll provide your unborn pups and their mother some feeding like a good mate I am.
reyna bared her pearly whites with a snarl.
you.. you swine! she barks, nipping at him as she made distance. i really will find someone else if this is how you treat me!
her stomach growls alongside her.

starvating really was getting the best of her, but now her canines thirst for revenge.
Nivis sighed upon hearing the growl. The truth was he was quite an asshole now and enjoyed teasing her a lot but at the same time he knew the right and only thing he needed to do was to bring her something to eat. She was a lady at end of the day.

Don’t be dramatic, Reyna. You make yourself look pathetic. So he fueled up the fire. You are gonna scare all the possible preys away if you are so loud. His own stomach announced the low nutrients amount in his body with a growl and as she hissed at him, Nivis ignored her furthermore.
well, naturally our quarry will run away. i'd hope so, if they see a wolf. she rolls her eyes after a click of her tongue.

will you fetch something for me then? she'd really appreciate some cooperation for once.. and she'd hate to chew on dry, rotten deer meat.
nivis can eat that, since he likes to chew on imaginary food so much. she can only presume it's a coping mechanism to avoid thinking about the kind of food he must eat to survive.
What do I get in return if I do so, Reyna? Impress me and offer something I may enjoy.

In these terms Nivis was quite obvious. The small creature in the distance jumped; he shushed Reyna once again. The natural instincts and blood running through his veins warmed up a little once his gaze concenrated on the something easy to swallow and perhaps also catch. Was he in the mood though? All depended on Reyna, her life decisions, yet a little bit on Nivis’ will too.

(Keep quiet my dear if you want to feast soon, tonight, without zero effort.)
reyna caught a glimpse of the rabbit, too. she glances at nivis, and purses her lips as she remains as frozen as ice. do your thing.

perhaps it was not what he was implying, and maybe she might throw a bone to this hungry mutt later. but for now, she keeps her lips sealed and her body still.
She was so adorable and sweet, Nivis thought with an eye roll and then he was back to concentrating. Reyna’s heart beat so loudly he could hear it from the distance, swearing it could jump out of her ribcage.

What do I do… panicking little; his mind spoke silently. Performance anxiety wasn’t his thing but this was Reyna and so crouching, on tip toes, he walked towards the small unbothered creature. During the night, hunting was easier—some couldn’t see that well; those lost ones therefore suffered a huge disadvantage.

Good.

She shall give him what he wants afterwards.
reyna watches as nivis stalks the clueless creature, still as possible.
rabbits have exceptionally good hearing, or so she's been told — she believed it only after losing a meal to a missplaced step on a branch.

so she waits, terrified that the rabbit could hear the pounding of her heart against her chest as each step nivis takes makes her heart race.
Nivis felt like he was guiding a little pup on its first hunt and if that really was the case, it wouldn’t end up well at all. Reyna relied on him and while that was very lovely, the pressure and warm breath on his back caused difficulty to focus.

Munching on some of the grass that poked out from underneath the snow, the rabbit slowly moved closer to them, making the whole process much easier.

Stay back, Reyna. He told the snowhite with a very low growl. His black form unlike hers hid him whole in the darkness and then—crunch

A tree branch underneath the snow cover cracked, fuck. The rabbit noticed it thus Nivis lashed, rushing after it to the best of his abilites, leaving Reyna behind.
the pale woman watches her lover set off running after his quarry, and she finally relaxes. cold snow envelopes her rear as it hits the forest floor. and then, a yawn.

dawn arrives soon. she can already feel her headaches inching their way to ruin her sleep. but her stomach refuses to give her a rest. so now, reyna stupidedly sits here for a worthwhile meal.

how she misses the maids.
Quite honestly Nivis expected Reyna to do the bare minimum and hoped for her to at least help him with the chase. It’s always easier done when two do it and especially for an animal this small, but cleaely Reyna had been too spoiled, used to the luxurious life of rotten noble packs.

It pissed Nivis off… a little bit.

The chase was short; the rabbit couldn’t get away in time fast enough and ended up in Nivis’ mouth sooner than anticipated. Thank god. Thank god for the thick snow, darkness and Nivis’ coat. Thank god for stupid Reyna; who whoever knew if even could hunt.

Growling then with the white trophy of a rabbit, Nivis dragged his legs back, annoyed and exhausted for doing the basic survival need.
reyna stands excitedly, the scent of fresh blood already flaring her senses. as she approaches what she — wrongfully — predicts to be hers.

oh, i knew you could catch it, nivis~ her voice is melodic, playful. her head stands high and each step as graceful as innocent deer, reyna then could not understand why her beloved growled at her.
she reaches for the rabbit, nipping at it without a moment's hesitation.
Nivis however growled.

His crimson eyes observing with a little anger, his body tense. He was glad to bring Reyna some food as it had been a while to see her so excited but still, he wanted something in return.

Not even a thank you, my dear Reyna? A growl came out with this one. I’d expect something in return that’s more than that. And he was gonna get it, but for now… it was time to have a fair portion himself.

thank you. it rings hollow, as she's far more focused on the snack than whatever nivis has to complain about this time.

i'll give it to you later. that she did mean, however. if she must sleep soon she may as well have a fun romp with her lover before then.
Gaze lowered and eyes piercing her as she ate, he inhaled her sweet scent. My dear Reyna, you make me so incredibly… so incredibly… yeah. He couldn’t find the right words to describe it, or rather he didn’t dare too.

The season of egg hatching and blooming flowers was coming up faster each single day and Nivis found himself excited to be overwhelmed by those. They always used to be so vulnerable and giving, literally starving for company and it was gonna be so soon, now with his mate by his side. The thoughts pursued after munching on his fair portion and stealing some directly from Reyna’s muzzle, because that was what he always used to do.

You have matured a lot, Snow-white.

Maybe he took a little too much, too big of a bite from Reyna’s, though.
reyna squints at him.
i'm eating, put it away. she speaks only after chewing, but the rabbit is devoured by the pair in minutes. it'd suffice for only a little bit, but anything counts when one is alone during winter.

reyna is indifferent to nivis' compliment, still a little grumpy as a result of hunger. but she smiles and plops down. though she keeps her tail tucked between her legs as she settles down
you're going to have to try a lot harder than that, my dear. i'm no simple girl that you stumble across while looking for a snack.
Let me remind you one thing—two, in fact.” Nivis smirked, nudging Reyna’s hip with his nose a little bit, which she didn’t obviously like. First; it was you who came up to me, who was looking for me, knowing me and who I am. Second; we already had intercourse in the past, Reyna so don’t act all mighty when you were so easy to lift up your tail prior to your actual marriage. What would your father say about that…” Nivis whispered.

Disappointment.

By talking he distracted her enough to crawl on top of her and licked her ear. That frame underneath him vibrated with each growl.
her brute of a husband has no tact.

he requests for the mortal dance — where two unite and become one in their bodies, mind, and soul — in a manner that almost made the rabbit come back out through where it once entered. she rolls her eyes, and moves away him. crimson eyes watch him, judge him, and decide.

oh please. she plays hard to impress. this isn't their first time, but just because they are lone wolves in the wild again does not mean they should act with such little tact.
then — a little, simple game came to mind.
catch me. she starts,  dainty legs already carrying her through the snow. catch me like you did that rabbit and maybe then i'll give your reward.
