Mae had been glued to @Akavir's side since returning to Swiftcurrent Creek. It'd been a couple weeks now, and her eyes were reaching the final stages of healing — but, as Reverie had predicted, her vision did not return to her. She could see a little more now, some shapes and colors, impressions of light and shadow. Just enough to get around familiar grounds by herself.

Still, she didn't like being alone anymore. Often she passed the time by asking her father to describe the sights around the creek as it entered spring's full bloom, or practicing hunting. Reverie had said she could still do it with a partner. Mae had decided then and there that it would be her father, though she hadn't actually spoken to him about it directly yet.

In some ways, relearning the basics of her existence was a welcome distraction from the news that @Arric would soon be a father. Mae wasn't sure how she felt about that. She still visited with him, but less now, and she felt a certain distance between them. Mostly she kept to her father's company.

It was getting easier.

One night, as she settled in next to him to sleep, there was a casual addition to her nightly farewell:

Love you, She yawned. Goodnight.

Within seconds Mae had fallen asleep, not even listening for her father's reciprocation. She didn't need to hear it. She knew he loved her.
