The cold winds of the early morning stretched their merciless fingers down the small entrance that made the Queen's home, touching her skin suddenly. With a grunt and a fur-bristling shiver the yearling pulled her limbs closer to her, her pale eyes still refusing to open to greet the day. Unconsciously she then pulled her snout from the warmth of the little ball she had curled herself to, her leathery nose searching another type of warmth, one that she failed to find at her side as she helplessly nuzzled the emptiness of the den.

Since the moment that the leading pair of the Spine had turned into a couple, the nights had turned more nerve wrecking and the nights more eventful. While the cause behind the yearling's worries was strayed far from the bottled feelings Sitri had freed under the night sky, they were still related to the brown assassin. From her recent expeditions she had not only learnt that the Spine was not the only one bracing themselves for children but that they were also not as alone as they initially thought. The rumors of a group of loners becoming more real overtime was enough to have the Queen in edge.

The nights were no different.
Through they produced the opposite of worry, they still roused some sort of anxiousness in the young female. Sharing a den was on thing, but sharing a life was another. And Cara had been surprised doing both at once.
With her head lifting slowly from the floor and her eyes blinking to cut through the blurriness of the morning she stood and slipped through the entrance, her lips parting and calling for him as soon as the brittle cold washed over her face.

Hey~ More caraname action woot woot!

He felt guilty, leaving her alone like that. Especially at this time of year, when the winds were biting and freezing. When he was in their den, he positioned himself to block the worst of the winds from her curled form. It was the least he could do until he found the time to get a real windbreaker for the both of them.

Kaname had to go, putting it bluntly. It had woken him up in the middle of the night, and his body urged him to urinate before his bladder exploded or something disgusting like that. The dark wolf slipped out of the shared den and trotted to a bush to do the deed, and it was when he had finally finished that Cara awoke and howled for him.

Eager to return to their den, Kaname increased his pace as he spotted a white head poking out of the dark crevice. "Evening, Cara." He called as he closed the distance between them. The assassin placed a gentle kiss on her forehead before speaking again. "Sorry for leaving, I had to go take care of something urgent." He kept his head placed on top of hers all the while as he murmured apolgetically.

It was no strange occurrence for the female to wake up alone, the mornings had always been lonesome moments for her, but as her single life ended she had begun to get used to the sound of another being breathing next to him. She could not lie that the first night had been strange --or plain awkward to tell the truth. While Kaname had seemingly felt comforted by the fact that there were no more barriers between their curled up bodies, the yearling had found it hard to get used to his touch; the warmth and his the feeling of his breath upon her neck. All of these feelings were pleasant, of course, but still rare for the inexperienced female.

As she lingered outside the narrow entrance of her den, the outline of a dark silhouette danced upon her eyes. Again, he was back, reeling towards her with a single command. She received his affection with no objections, waving her own tail joyfully as a response. And though she had not required an explanation a strong sense of intrigue suddenly rose from her chest as an urgency was mentioned.
Little did she know that it was not the same kind she was thinking of.

"....Mara? she asked, her mind inevitably turning to the traitorous bitch that had deserted them. While she thought of her as weak and petty, the echo of her threat still resounded in the very back of her head. The last thing the (first time) to-be-mother needed was to have her unborn threatened. She knew well that he had also, though not verbally, expressed his worry for said threat. His method (which had been to shield the Spine out of any outside influence),regardless of how well intended it was also turning to be harmful.

lol sorry, my bad. :P

Kaname chuckled softly. While he was just as paranoid about Mara as she, he was amused by the stark contrasts of what they thought was an urgency at the moment. "No," he said, amusement still lingering in his voice. "I had to go pee."

He settled down outside the den, giving Cara enough space to come out and sit by him if she was interested. The Beta watched the darkness of night slowly recede as the sun came up, shining, greeted by the singing of the birds. "But, Mara..." He sighed, turning his attentions to the traitorous woman they had recently chased out. "We should find out where she's hiding, and if she has any wolves with her, trying to create some semblance of a pack for revenge against us..."
"in the land of gods and monsters,

The feeling that invaded the Queen's veins was not paranoia. She hated the filthy animal that had once belonged to her pack, she loathed her with almost the same intensity the increasingly rising sun began to warm up the morning; but she was not in the least as troubled with her menace as Kaname was.
Dismissing the Beta's explanation with a feeble smile and a dry chuckle she bumped her nose to his chin. However, this small gesture was not enough to fully eliminate the nasty female off their conversation.

With her eyes suddenly sinking into the icy pool of his own, Cara listened to him voice their shared concerns. While this was not the way the female had sought to begin her morning she was reluctant to turn away a topic of such importance. After all it wasn't only the pack's safety what was at risk but the future Spine brood's sake. "I have given instructions to kill her at sight," she barked, recalling the enraged howl that she had emitted after chasing the piece of trash out the borders. "She knows she is being hunted, though with her stupidity I wouldn't be surprised to see her attempt something.." she mused aloud, thinking on the prospect of a pack-wide manhunt for her head.

With Sitri and the newly recieved males in their army, their possibility of seeing bloodshed increased greatly. With her lips now curving into a thoughtful pout she cast her eyes towards him once more. While his worries were genuine and valid, it still did not give him free will to deal with newcomers the way he had. "We need to strenghten ourselves ", she began, "More than patrol and fighting-skill wise, with new members" she concluded, searching any reaction within his eyes.
He as well as her should know this as obvious.
The strenght of a pack did not only lie in their leadership and dynamic but also in their numbers.

He hummed in agreement. He had a feeling that the girl was planning something, but he doubted it would have any weight to it. But there were those scents he found on their borders. He recognized only two of them, Mara's and that loner he saw by the old mountain. "After we chased her out, I smelled a few scents nearby the border. It was her and a few other wolves. All female." He murmured, wondering if she would be a little angry at him for not saying anything sooner. "I'm not sure who they were, but they were there for a while before they went northeast."

As for new wolves joining them, he was certain that it wouldn't be hard to do. Their numbers were already growing steadily with winter driving wolves to their borders. He wasn't worried about the prospect of bringing in new wolves. "While I agree with you, we should maintain training regiments for the new recruits, even if we don't have as many, and the veterans. One trained wolf is worth more than a wolf fighting on its instincts alone."

The last remainings of the bitch's revolting scent had been completely cleared out from the Spine's territory, however, during one of her most recent outings the Queen had noted that it still lingered in the area. Luckily -- for Mara's sake -- the presence of her scent was not accompanied with any type of sightings. Since their last fight had broken out and Kaname had tore her fugly face apart the bitch had respected her exile.
Still, like her mate, Cara had the feeling, and the desire ,that she would soon show herself.

The feelings that flooded the Moretti's mind as she thought of her former subordinate were far from fear. Instead she held repugnance, a deep disgust that made the contents of her stomach rise to the mouth of her esophagus. Despite the annoying similarity in their names, the two females were nothing alike. While Mara's own demeanour contradicted what she called to be her 'ideologies', Cara was clear and concise with what she wanted.
And what she wanted was for Mara's head to roll.
She had told her so then, and would tell her again when their awaited confrontation took place.

"I'll mop the floor with her face before she can try to put a paw in the Spine" she barked through gritted teeth, her mind silently taking note of where her mate had last found traces of her. Though she would not sent one of her wolves to chase out the phantom she had become she would be sure to raise the Northen border's surveillance.
Though, until now, the female had proven to be full of nothing but shit and hollow threats, Cara would not give her the benefit of the doubt this time.
Their silently declared war would not over until either of their hearts ceased their beating.

"We'll keep them in the loop and train them for battle"given the bitch ever shows herself, she added in her mind, parting her lips into a reasurring smile before reaching out her muzzle to brush his shoulder with her cold nose. "You'll instruct them under the ways of an assassin" she barked, with a suggestive quirk of her brow. The man's specialty, as cruel as it could be, was also perfectly fitting for the pack's current needs.

He smirked at Cara's spoken threat, reminded of the younger woman he had met long ago on Silvertip. But really, she had barely changed. Despite her maturation, she was still the same firebrand girl who he knew would get exactly what she wanted.

That was, Mara's head. Or death.

"We should give everyone a description of Mara so they know who to look out for specifically." They had many new wolves coming in who had no idea that they were in war withr another female. How could they distinguish one trespassed from another?

Kaname stiffened slightly at the mention of assassination. To tell the truth, he hardly felt like an assassin anymore. He much preferred the life of a Beta; defending and leading his pack for as long as he could. No longer did the voices bother him, or the urge for blood call him to kill one of his own kind. He did not think he was the assassin he used to be. "There are better assassins than me out there, Cara. We can use them and have a better chance of success than you would kicking my old bones into gear." he chuckled drily.
"in the land of gods and monsters,

It was perhaps, as troubling as it may seem, a true fact to say that the Cara had had first (and ironically) wondered aimlessly into Jinx's ranks was not the same one that, after having fought with tooth and nail against pretty much everyone who had deemed to think differently, had climbed now to the top and conquered the world with her wits.
She had stumbled upon the way, that was certain not to mention expectable, but never had she faltered to get back on her paws after she had her face pushed to the pavement and her mouth filled with gravel.
She had battled for everything that she had in her possesion, nothing had come freely, not even the scars she wore, that in a way, could serve as receipts for all her fortune.

She had gone to hell and back to get to where she was and get what she wanted. And let me tell you, the devil had become a good friend of hers, one that she wouldn't mind visiting again if it meant Mara's death. If it was war what the bitch wanted she would have to get ready, because the Spine would use all it's weaponry on this one.
And Cara's rage was nuclear.

"Ugly bitch with a marred scar running down her face -- not to hard to miss" she jeered, her brow quirking and the narrow bridge of her muzzle wrinkling in honest contempt towards the female. Little did she know that a real, or more objective description at least, was needed for the wolves to really be able to identify her -- especially those who had recently joined.

The topic however was not allowed to settle in the conversation, for it was Kaname's next response what stole the Queen's attention from the matter. While the age difference that was wedged between them was no secret to her, nor to anyone in the pack really, she did not consider that he was as 'aged and rusty' as he claimed to be. "I don't care about other assasins" she answered, a strange docility seeping from her voice in an attempt to lull that dryness of his.

"I care about those who care about me" she breathed softly, letting her neck stretch enough for her nose to hover temptatively over his own.

He snorted a bout of laughter at Cara's description of Mara, the mention of the scar he inflicted delighting him slightly. While there was no love lost for Mara in Kaname's case, Cara had taken the hatred of the traitor the next level. She was Ahab-like in her wrath, but her mate did not blame her. Traitors do not deserve to live so freely. He really should have taken her eye out for good measure instead of just scratching it.

His dry, callous nature towards his ineptitude was moisturized and brought life as Cara murmured soft, soothing words to him. He met her halfway as she leaned to touch noses with him. But he went the extra mile and licked at her cheek affectionately. "Maybe I could teach one of the pups to be an assassin. Would you mind it?"

Already should he have known the fierceness with which she was able to love, or in this case, to hate. He had already seen it, with Majesty at the time, and would undoubtledly see it once more when the awaited meeting between Cara and Mara took place -- because it eventually would. But in the meantime Cara limited herself to simple express her anger in the form of insults and harsh growls.

But with the conversation straying far from the despisable bitch, much to her delight, she quickly statshed away the many insults left in her repertoire. She'd have plenty of other occassions to use them either way. Instead she focused on something she had not had many opportunities to use; her affection. With his nose retributing the same soft touch she extended her neck to give, she cracked a smile in her muzzle -- which only grew stronger as he swiped his tongue over her cheek tenderly.

The pleasant exchange of warmth they shared at night had not yet been ignited with the ardous passion of lust. Since the night which they had consummated their titles as mates, no physical connection had been made. Having children was of course, still a priority to the pale Queen, but so was making sure the Spine would be prepared for said children. And as long as her wolves did not know how to deal with Mara, she could not begin to arrange her den as a nursery.
Not yet.

It was then that his request pulled her from her thoughts.
Train one of the pups? Cara bit her lip pensively as she weighed the options that were laid before her. While she had grown to respect and admire her mate's affinity for the brutal activity of a murdered, she was not sure she wanted to see her own sons and daughters become cold blooded killers. Yet, being a Warrior that had already claimed another's life with angst as her sole motive she had no real reason to disgress -- but again, thanks to the strong motherly insticts beginning to make an appereance in her interior, no real reason to agree.

"I wouldn't mind you teaching them to fight -- just not dedicating themselves to it. If they want to howver, then I wouldn't want anyone else teaching them" she crooned decisively, her eyes seeking his acceptance as she again craned her neck to touch her nose to his. She didn't want to loose her children due to the path their father tried to set them in. If later on, they decided to pursue such way of life, then Cara wouldn't oppose.
But raising them to become a cold blooded murdered was not in Cara's maternity plans.

Indeed. Want me to start it?

Kaname busied himself with placing gentle kisses on her cheeks. He was not yet filled with the lust that he felt on their "wedding night", but if Cara prompted him further, he would respond without a second thought. He did not notice the apprehension on her face as she considered training her children to be killers like he did, but if he had noticed it then, it would have stopped him in his tracks.

The assassin was all for having a child of theirs follow in his footsteps. At least one. Then he could die in peace, knowing that his family's skills weren't just wasted on one informally retired wolf. He did not factor in the mental-warping that being trained to kill had on a young child; he was born and raised with killers, and never minded it one bit. His mate was of a different lot however, which he came to realize when she spoke of a compromise.

"Of course, it's all up to them eventually." He paused in his ministrations, meeting her eyes again. "I can teach them the basics of fighting, and we can both teach them how to hunt, but they can be anything they want." Kaname wondered if any of them would turn towards the healing trade. It would be useful, if the rest of its siblings were going to be fighting or hunting all the time. He hoped that Ivev would stay a little while to see that through, so they could be left with a resident healer instead of having to grovel to other packs to give them one.

Little by little, the space between them was reduced to a minimun, just as her desire to crawl back inside the comfort of the den grew subsequently. With only soft yips to signal her delight she twisted her neck to the side to lay down a path for him to follow. Then, with her lips parting and her tail swishing behind her she re-straigtened herself to meet his gaze head on as he answered to her past words with a reasuring intervention of his own.
Of course it would be up to them., she thought feeling glad they were on the same page, Cara allowed her pinkish tongue to flick over his nose as he finished to pronounce the last syllables of his answer.

While she was stubbornly determined to let the children have the freedom to decide upon their interest and find their own passion using the guidance they gave them as bases, she was, hypocritically driven to raise them to be no less than the future Alphas and Betas, if not of the Spine of other packs around the Teekon Wilds. They would not be anything less -- they could not be.

"They'll be the Kings and the Queens of promise" she barked boldy, almost as if fortelling the greatness and importance her not yet concieved children would live to have. "The most good looking, intelligent -- and of course badass" she continued, her voice now laced with a coy tease that was perfectly accompanied by the tempting sway of her hips and her slowly approaching face.

Suddenly, the tip of their noses connected and with her warm breath being the only thing that stood between them she whispered, "Hey", the softness with which she spoke with almost unnatural for her, "Do you wanna cuddle?" she ended, her nose meeting again with his before she pulled away only to dissapear inside the narrow opening of the den, her tail swishing invitingly the whole time.

Last post!

"They will be. They're born of royalty, and its only natural that they inherit those ranks." He breathed just as Cara's nose brushed with his. He was becoming increasingly aware of the movement in her hips and the diminishing space between them as she proclaimed her hopes and dreams for her children. Even the tone in her voice was not fitting with the words. It was much too sultry. But he didn't mind one bit.

His tail wagged slowly, quickly increasing pace as her proposition became clear. "Of course." He said, his voice deepened huskily. The Beta followed his Alpha, leaving the chill of the outside world and willingly entering the warmth of their little slice of heaven.
