A wolf sat under a tree, perfectly still if not for the breeze that ruffled his gray fur. In his teeth was a twig loaded with dried chokecherries, a staple food for many species of birds throughout the long winter months. Koda had learned this by watching them go about their daily lives during his solo patrols along the border. They usually flew away when he approached, so today he was trying a different tactic, hoping to lure them with food.

In the branches above, tiny birds were chirping and preening and foraging for food. They occasionally tilted their heads and peeked down at the wolf sitting below, no doubt curious about what he was trying to do. Not wanting to scare them, Koda never made any sudden movements, not even flinching when tiny bird droppings splashed between his eyes.

Finally, his patience paid off when a bold black-capped chickadee fluttered down to perch on Koda's twig. The wolf held his breath and watched as the bird plucked a berry from the stem and flew off. The encounter lasted less than a second, but Koda was filled with pride at the achievement. He emerged from the bush with haste, he had to tell someone right now.

"Did anyone see that?" He asked, looking around. No one would believe it, otherwise.
I'm just gonna throw Lupa in if you don't mind. I'm trying to let her meet most of the Pack members :)

Lupa was just taking a stroll around her new camp lands, lost in thought. Replaying a memory over and over again. The scene of Pura eating his own kind hadn't frightened her, it made her sad. Other wolves would call him a monster. A freak. A murderer. But she wouldn't call it any of those things. She felt sorry for Pura. There must had been something that drove him into cannibalism, but what? She somewhat felt his pain. Being so different. She chuckled to herself. Aren't we all? She had then caught a sent of another wolf nearby. Not an intruder. Just another Pack member. She lifted her nose and followed the sent in curiosity.

The sent had bought her to a brown wolf who was as still as the tree he was leaning against. She dunked down and watched the scene in interest. What was he doing? Was he planning on eating the birds above? Whatever he was doing, he seemed to focused to be bothered. She sat back and watched as a tiny fat bird grabbed a berry of the twig that was perched in his mouth and fluttered off. She couldn't help but be impressed. She softly padded a big circle and rested again by the wolf. "Wow," she whispered, "I have to say that was pretty cool." She had never gotten up close to a bird. She had always wondered if it was edible though. "How did you do that?"
Thanks for joining :)

Fortunately someone had been nearby to witness Koda's bird encounter. The unfamiliar wolf emerged from where she'd been watching and padded closer to him, obviously impressed by what she'd just seen. Koda puffed his chest out proudly.

"You just need some bait and a whole lot of patience," he answered. It was much like fishing, only cuter. He studied the female before him, faintly detecting the pack's scent upon her hide. "You must be a newcomer, huh," he said. He'd noticed a couple new scents around the plateau within the last couple days. He wasn't feeling so antisocial at the moment, so he was happy to introduce himself. "I'm Koda."
She smiled and replied, "I'm Lupia, but you can just call me Lupa. And yes I am new here." She had joined the Plateau only a few days ago. She had been so bored sense then. All she did was catch small prey for the caches, patrol the borderline, and lounge around. A simple routine: wake up, patrol, hunt, sleep. She had began growing bored. She wanted to do something better than sight seeing, like a Pack hunt. She had always loved those. When she was younger, she had hunted caribou with her brothers and sisters. They had always enjoyed terrorizing the young or weak ones before killing it. She had all the energy in the world to hunt all day, though a good chunk of the time failing. It bought back more memories of her as a pup, training by attacking a little rock, or a beetle. It had frightened her when she had taken on a coyote, but in the end he ran with his tail tucked between his legs. Yes she had done many cool things, but never getting anywhere near a bird. "Well, it must've taken you a lot of patience to do that. I would never be able to hold that still for that long!" she thought aloud.
"Yeah, but it was worth it," he replied. For Koda, getting a bird to eat out of his hand was an achievement he'd be proud of for a long time. The only thing that could possibly overshadow getting one bird, was getting two birds. 'Hmm, I need a life,' he thought to himself.

"Do you like it here so far?" He asked her. "You picked a good time to join up, one of ours just had a litter not long ago," he said. He hadn't bothered with Blue's pups yet. Babies were so uninteresting to him. It wasn't until the pups got older and started to run and play that he paid any attention. But he figured this girl would get all goo-goo over them. Girls love babies, it is known.
She nodded her head in understanding. When she was bored, she often did stuff like this to keep herself busy. When the man said there were puppies her eyes lit up, "Yes, I thought I smelled puppies here and there. I wanted to visit them, but I'm scared I might frighten them with my size. Maybe when they're on their feet I'll go see them." She knew that young puppies didn't like to be bothered to much, well at least that was her view of things. When she was born, she wasn't really fond of any visitors except maybe her dad. All she wanted to do was sleep and get drunk of milk. She was scared that at least one would be intimidated by her size, and she didn't want them to be scared of her.
Koda nodded. "Makes sense," he said. On second thought, maybe it wouldn't have been such a good idea for Lupa, being so new, to go see the pups. Wolf mothers could be a little overzealous when protecting their young. Blue Willow could mistake the new member for an intruder and things could get ugly.

The gray wolf yawned. Not because he was bored, but because sitting still for so long made him feel tired. He stood up and shook out his pelt. "How about we go find something to eat," he suggested. He needed to get moving, or else he'd likely drift off.
She saw that Koda was dozing off. She got up and nudged him, "I'd love to! Unless you would rather sleep!" She smiled and turned around, sniffing the air to catch a sent. She smelled squirrels here and there, but a rabbit in the distance seemed more appealing to her. Without waiting, she darted off swiftly but nimbly towards the smell, expecting Koda to follow. It felt weird not hunting with the wolves she had always hunted and fighted besides. But she was willing to give these wolves a chance, though she had felt so independent herself. As she neared the smell, her pace slowed and her belly brushed on the forest floor. Her ears flattened on her skull and she started to creep up on it, one paw after the other.

The rabbit seemed to have sensed her coming because it looked her way and darted in the different direction. She wasn't going to give up that easily. She bolted after it, her paws pounding hardly on the floor. She let the rabbit run and have its fun for awhile. Her tactic was to let the furball's energy drain, then attack. She chased it for awhile, not paying attention to anything but the prey. As she saw the rabbit start to slow down, she darted up and landed a blow that took it out of its misery. Her teeth sunk into its neck to suffocate the furry creature. She felt satisfied with her kill.
Lupa accepted the offer with more enthusiasm than he'd expected. She jumped up and ran off without even waiting for him to follow. Koda trotted after her, curious to see what she'd do. She seemed to be zeroing in on the scent of rabbit.

He caught up to her just as she'd tracked the scent to it's source, a rabbit sitting out in the open. Koda hung back and observed. Lupa crept up on it as close as she could get. When it ran, she bolted after it, chasing it further into the woods. Koda loped after.

He didn't see the kill, by the time he caught up the thing was already dead. "Nice catch," he said. Rabbits were tricky prey to catch, although this particular rabbit seemed a little dumb, being caught out in the open so far from it's burrow. Survival of the fittest.

Koda was feeling too lazy to catch his own prey, but he didn't ask to share in Lupa's catch. Rather he turned and headed to a nearby cache and dug it up, retrieving a rabbit he'd buried earlier. "Look, I caught one too," he declared, tossing the carcass on the ground. It was twisted and mangled and dirty. Lupa's fresh kill looked much more appetizing. But meat was meat to Koda. He tore a chunk out of the partially frozen body, swallowing it whole. "Mmmm, bunny Popsicle," he said.
She laughed as he ate the chunk of the rabbit. "Well at least it's not rotten! That kind of meat if disgusting!" Her nose wrinkled enthusiastically. She lowered her head and took another bite of her own kill. "So, how is it here? Does it get a little boring sometimes?" She had got a bit bored some days. Doing the same routine over and over, it wasn't exciting. It was still a necessity, but it didn't make it fun. She would rather be doing something different, like a spar or a hunt. Maybe sending messages to other Packs. It would be jolly good fun. Se could see the rest of the world. Maybe when she had the time, she could take a day walk around as much as the Teekon Wilds as possible. After all, this land was still a bit new to her. She was born in a totally different location than here and it had been quite a while to travel all the way here. But it was exciting non the less. She loved to travel to different places just for the fun of it.
Koda shrugged. "Food is food," he said after wolfing down another bite. He wasn't terribly picky about his food, eating just about anything he could catch. Of course, he did have some preferences. Rabbit wasn't a favorite of his. He found the meat bland and boring, but it was available in abundance, so he ate it.

He snorted at her next question. "I could stand a little less excitement around here," he replied. It always seemed like there was some major drama playing out at the plateau. "Why, are you bored here already?" He asked. "What do you like to do for fun?"
Why, are you getting bored already? What do you like to do her fun?

The next question made her have to think for a moment. What did she like to do for fun? She had never really had any hobby of the sort. "Nah. It's not boring here. Hm... what I like to do for fun..." She looked up to the sky, like the pale wolfess was expecting the clouds to answer. "Well. I do like to hunt. And I like to do spars with my Packmates." In her old home, she was a rough and wild girl. Always seeking for a fighting partner. Of coarse, her brothers were always happy to do it. "I've sparred so many times with my siblings. It was great. Though they did play a little to rough!"
last from me, ty for the thread

Koda raised a brow when she told him her pursuits included hunting and sparring. "You don't look like the rough and rowdy type," was his response. To himself he added, 'killing bunnies and beating up pups doesn't count.'  "You should give birdwatchin' a try," he suggested.

Koda finished his leftovers, leaving the bones behind for some scavenger. "Welp, I s'pose I should go make myself useful," he said, dismissing himself with a nod. "I'll see you around."

Ok, thank you for the thread! :)

She gave an amused chuckle. "Ah, what can I say? I don't like to fit in with the crowd." She smiled at the male, "That sounds like a plan. But I would need to get my patience level sky high" She ate the last of the rabbit and stood up. "Well, it was nice to meet you Koda. I should be going as well." With that, she headed into the forest, disappearing into the trees.
