@Cara (and later Keith)

She was gone.

His queen, his lover, his mate. She left. In her wake came a new conqueror of Ouroboros Spine, another change in hand in less than a year. Kaname could not stand to live in such a place anymore. He did not fight this new usurper, he followed the trail that would lead him back to his beloved queen and him.

He was alive, somehow. Perhaps Kaname had not done the job right, perhaps he was sloppy after being stagnant for so long, but regardless, Keith would die for real this time. His fangs bared and he licked his teeth in anticipation. The white northerner would pay for stealing her away from him, in his own blood, a thousand fold, before he would grant him the mercy of death.

The scent was getting stronger; they had not gone far from Ouroboros' borders. In the darkness of morning, he could see a pale frame in the shadows ahead, slender and small. Cara. He walked closer to her, convinced that Keith was not there to disturb them. He needed her alone now, to speak to her. To ask why. "Cara." He whispered, loud enough for her to hear, a painful ache in his voice.
Sooner or later she had known this time would come.
And while she had wished for it to be 'later', she could also not deny the strong rush of anticipation and adrenaline that bubbled at in her veins when a very familiar voice called her name. Under the drowning sun of the afternoon, Cara's eyes glistened with rage. The open wound he had left as he had tried to sabotage her happiness with an elaborate death scam stung at with his sole presence.
As the Queen jerked herself around to face the man she had once shared intimacy with, a million of demands and questions began to pop in her mind, almost hushing the sound of her throbbing heart.
He, like the well-trained assassin he was, had arrived without raising a flag, slipping through the foliage and finding her with an ease that made her undescribably uncomfortable.
Would he be here, there, everywhere to haunt her forever?
Or would he just leave it to the memories to taunt her everyday?

"You cannot stay away, can you?" she barked, her voice coming off raspy not because she was hurting (not as much anyways) but because she had been caught so off guard by his arrival.
Her response was not what he was expecting. He expected to see joy in her eyes, some semblance of happiness for his arrival. But instead, he saw accusation in her eyes, in her voice. She was not expecting him. "What have I done wrong Cara, that you would just leave?" He tried to think back to all the times they were together. What did he do to have her disappear into the night again? "Someone has taken over the Spine while you were gone." He said, trying to use the tactic to bring her back to the Spine, to him. "We have to go back."
