@Citali I figured this grenade mod was pretty fitting.

Head down, nose to the ground, the shadowy Amazon was tracking. It was a calming activity for her, thoughts still churning from her conversation with Tyrr the other day. She knew she was an oddball but somehow, being here with so few of her fellow Amazonians made it much more... prominent. It wasn't the first time that she felt like she was outside looking in but it was much harder to ignore this time, for there was no one to mask that feeling for her, no one that she could go to to hide from it.

She shook her head, attempting to disperse the thoughts that clouded her mind. If she kept that up, she wouldn't be able to track her prey, fresh scent or not. Moving forward, Nocta kept her focus on her quarry, slinking through the sun-dappled forest with the silence she was well-known for.
Uuuggghh. She hated it here. The wolves in these parts made her feel like the smartest wolf alive. Which wasn't such a bad thing... except now she had to explain herself to every wolf she came across. This plant does this. No. That's the wrong one. Yellow flowers. Not orange. She was gonna strangle a wolf if this continued. Or poison some wolf. Both sounded like a hell of a good idea.

She was on her way to the Cache. It was the richest area for plant life in these parts and since this forest was clearly recovering from a fire back in the day, she wasn't trusting the ashy soil. Nope. She'd pass straight through here and be on to the next neck of woods.

That was, until she spotted Nochtli. "Noctagon?" she asked, inquiring as to what the wolf was doing here. "Who's watching Tezcacoatl?" If they were both here... That leave Mani or Xiuh... At least if Xiuh was with him, his death was imminent.
The familiar voice made her head jerk up, bright eyes focusing immediately in the source. For the first time in a few days, a genuine smile flickered over her expression, tail wagging. Hey, Cheetah. I dunno. Maybe Mana. Xiuh seems like she's scheming so I kind of expect her to lurk in the background like some villain." if not, if she was tailing Tezca, it was more likely in the form of just ripping his tail off and beating him with it. She would totally do something like that.

"You wanna help me track down food and then I'll help you haul some plants back?" Her offer was easy, natural. Nochtli had never had a problem talking to the Medic and that stayed true presently as well.
She had absolutely no idea who was watching him. Her eyes widened and then narrowed as her ears flattened upon her head. Well that simply wouldn't do. He'd gotten himself into enough trouble on his own. Leaving that wolf to his own devices was a terrible, horrific idea. Leaving him with Xiuh, was an amazing one. Villain or not, at least she was thinking of options as opposed to pacifying the wolf like everyone else.

Her frustration was clear enough without needed to speak on them. Saying nothing, she instead listened as Nocthli went on about food and then plants. She shifted on her paws. Hunting sounded horrible. A necessary, but boring and strenuous activity left for hunters, not healers of her caliber. Alas, they were somewhat short-staffed in those regards and Tezcacoatl's caches would not last them forever.

"I suppose so," she resigned, agreeing to the terms. "What's on the menu this evening?"
Short post. On phone. <3333

Sure, her frustration was evident but Nochtli didn't react. Honestly, if the male got into that much trouble when they weren't hovering, it would only prove the point her sisters were trying to make. Her logic didn't fail her and so, there was no guilt as she regarded her friend.

A smile flickered over her face as Cita appeared reluctant at the mention of hunting. "I promise it'll be easier than the spiney thing from when we first got here." That had been an experience, to say the least. "I'm after a doe, right now. Has a fawn with her. We aren't too far off." She indicated with her nose, the direction she was headed in, having kept a good enough distance that their chatter now didn't spook them off.
She sighed in relief. Anything would be better than that spiny thing they encountered when they'd first gotten here. She wasn't sure Nochta's nose would have ever recovered from that experience... or at least the memory of it. Who would have known such a terrible creature existed?

"Deer is fine," she murmured. They were easy to catch. Easier to find. "Just the two, or the whole herd?" She wasn't so certain only the hind and its child would be traveling alone, but anything was possible. All the same, she lowered her nose and sniffed at the ground. Outside of healing, nothing was her forte, but as this was more of a life skill, she was decent at it.

They tracked.
"Both," She confirmed. "The pair is our quarry but I want to keep an eye on the herd itself." With them being new to the area, it would be beneficial for the pack to know the movements of a large food source. If they began to head south, Nochtli already had plans to guide them back up into the Northern region. "Gotta make sure you don't get hangry." Gods knew she was really bad about that.

It was a gesture she spoke with now, jerking her head in a "come on" gesture. She fell silent like the shadow she could be now, slinking forward through the forest with her nose to the ground. In time, they drew closer to their prey and Nocta's movements slowed, glancing at Cita, waiting for her to get into position.
Ugh. Both. She was afraid of that. It meant more hooves. More running. More coordination. All of which she was less than keen on, but she supposed something in her stomach was better than nothing in her stomach. As this hunting business was also the natural ways of things she supposed it couldn't hurt, but she missed the days when this sort of thing was just handed to her so she could focus on her own studies. Pulling additional weight in other areas of expertise just felt... like peasantry.

"Fine. I suppose it's better than eating you." With that comment, she fell into silence and slipped up behind Nochtli. Her hunt. She could lead. Citali was more than happy to play the supporting role as she took her cues from the darker female. It was easier this way. For all of them. The less involved she was in the decision making process of this hunt, the more successful it would be. She knew herbs. All else in life simply didn't matter.
Cita's comment only made her snort, giving her quite the incredulous look before moving off. Besides that, the two moved in sync which likely had a lot to do with the fact that they had traveled together for a long time. They had learned each other's tics and tells and now was no different. The medic played off the dark diplomat well and even as they hunted for the maybe the millionth time together (which was quite an exaggeration), Nocta knew she could count on her.

Just so, she slipped off to track the heard, letting Cita keep an eye on their more immediate quarry for the moment. Satisfied, she turned back to come at them from opposite the medic, busting out of the lower foliage of the forest to bark in the doe's face and drive her towards the larger wolf. The fawn, Nochtli went after, darting in to cripple it before going to assist her friend.
Citali settled in the brush as Nochtli went to further investigate the herd. She lingered, watching and waiting astutely as she awaited any kind of sign from her sister as to what she had discovered and how she might further help in this endeavor. The herd stayed quiet... then just like that, her dark sister sprung from the brush and the herd scattered.

Despite her big boned stature, Citali was quick on her feet as the doe rushed her. Citali snapped and gave pursuit, leading it away from the rest of the herd as Nochtli went after an easy kill. Citali chased instead, nipping at the doe's heels as she worked to gain a little more ground so she might land her teeth and wear this one out. It was exhausting work, but she strived all the same.
Together, they felled their prey and gorged themselves until they could eat no more. The doe and her babe had been a relatively easy catch, despite the fact that it had only been two of them working together. Afterwards, the Amazonian sisters would rest and clean the blood from their fur before dragging a portion of the meal back to their other sisters and Tezcacoatl.

Thread end.
