Kidnapped by pirates when he was very young, Dexter here adapted to life in Tortuga as best he could. He was something akin to a street rat - not fitting in with any one group of rogues. Upon hearing stories of the dread pirate Blackbeard, he began to idolize the legend. Fancying himself to be a real pirate (mostly due to the influence of his best friend Mazie), Dexter convinced a band of pirates to take him along the next time the ventured away from Tortuga. After this, he promptly got lost in the wilderness - although it is entirely likely that the rogues left him behind on purpose.
