Squirrel was born into a five pup litter, her parents third litter, in an established family of arctic wolves. Growing up, she was unaware of her parents superstitions concerning her younger sister Bird. Bird was the runt and was physically different from their siblings. She was lankier, pure white, and had vivid green eyes. Her father left on a hunting expedition, unable to handle the pressures of fatherhood any longer.

Her mother fell into a deep depression, certain that Bird was at fault. Rabbit, their mother, was good at hiding such emotions though and never showed the malice she held for her youngest pup. After Bird 'went missing' their mother packed up the rest of her children and moved them to her natal pack as she was no longer able to stay in such a sad place. Or that is what she told others.

Squirrel, Rain, Coyote, and Fish grew up in their mother's pack. Fish and Coyote became fierce warriors, Fish leaving to start his own pack after falling in love with a female named Tysha. Growing up, they soon learned of their mother's unpredictable moods. Often she would lash out at the pups, in particular Squirrel who had been closest to Bird.

As a pup she often questioned about her sister's disappearance, when her father was coming home. As a result, she was often struck or verbally abused by her mother. She became withdrawn and sulky, isolating herself away from her other siblings who vyed for Rabbit's affections.

On her death bed she revealed to Squirrel that Bird was not missing, that she had left the runt to die on her own. Furious, Squirrel snapped and tried to kill her. Her attempts failed for she was stopped by her eldest brother, Coyote. She was banished as a result of her treachery and left to find her sister in Teekon Wilds. She finds Bird also known as Ezimette, and joins Ryujiin as their Eta. She changes her name to Texiceia after meeting Bird and finding her sister has changed her name.
