Akazia was born in a small religious family that died in a forest fire. Akazia and her mother were the only ones to survive, her mother later died after being attacked by a mountain lion. Akazia was never very close to her mother, her family was more centered on their religion. To them she was just a means of production, familial ties were not encouraged and Akazia grew up a lonely child who vowed if she ever had children that they would always know they were loved.

Akazia married into a pack out of desperation, though she didn't love him. Her mate took a rather odd interest in her, given at the time she wasn't even a year old while he was five years of age. Her mate turned out to be a rather vicious man and often turned on her. After learning she was pregnant, Akazia fled the pack in fear that he would harm her children. She was one and a half years old.

She gave birth in June, to a litter of two though in her inexperience she accidentally stepped on one of the pups and killed it. Jaida is her only remaining child and relative. They stayed in a den next to a river which was her main food source. One Jaida was weaned, the pup began to learn how to be quiet after following a signal her mother gave her. When Jaida was old enough she began to accompany her mother on hunts, keeping quiet and observing. As she got older, Jaida began to help Akazia with the hunts and learning how to do so herself. The two have been travelling nomadically and have come to Teekon for a fresh start.

They have a bit of unfortunate upon meeting their first loners, coming across Arunik'ra and Ar-Khalbah who worship Molech, the two attempt to bring the mother and child into the cult and threaten to kill Akazia when she declines, though they promise not to hurt Jaida. The two get away though Akazia is wounded. Her wound draws Shink, a loner who wishes to eat Akazia. The two fight briefly, both wolves being injured though Shink received the worse end of it. Akazia tells him to leave and he does so, soon after Akazia and Jaida begin to travel again and come across Pyx in the mountains. Pyx is kind to them and the two leave with hope that there are others just as kind as her. The two find themselves at Big Salmon Lake where they fish and come across Minna.
