Born to Akamai and Ailani Kahele on a secluded island off the coast of British Columbia. His parents started his natal pack Pili Island soon after his and his twin sister's birth.

Over the coming months, he and his sister, Leilani, were educated about the ways of their pack and, most importantly, about their enemies on the mainland.

At a few months of age on one of Keanu's many explorations of the island, he came across a fire-colored girl around a few months younger than he was that appeared to have washed onto the shore from the sea. He approached the her lifeless form and lowered his nose to her face searching for a scent or other indication that she as alive. She woke in a startled leap to face him. he studied her with his watchful gaze, curious to how she ended up on their island. He was about to ask her where she came from, but she lunged at his face, her violent intent clear. Already learning fighting maneuvers from his father in preparation for leading the pack someday, he skillfully pinned her down. More amused than anything, he began to laugh, and they spent the rest of the day playing in the sand. He eventually learned her name was Ahe.

his mother soon found them and knew who the girl was immediately, although the pups had no idea. Ailani quickly sent the girl back across the land bridge while Keanu watched, sad to see his new friend leave

Ahe and Keanu continued to meet in secret, though, and became best friends. One day, Keanu was met with a sobbing Ahe on his side of the land bridge. He consoled her and when he learned what had happened, he grew angry. He told his friend to folow him and lead her into their territory to meet his parents.

His father, angry about the presence of the enemies daughter, wanted to send her away, but Keanu wouldn't have it. His strength showed in the way he met his father's gaze and in his following words. You will not throw her out. She's got nowhere else to go. His father, met with his son's fierce gaze and stern words, agreed to let Ahe stay.

Ahe quickly became a part of his family, and they remain best friends today.

A bloody battle with their enemies from the mainland later ensued, and Keanu's pack lost and was forced under the rule of Ahe's asshole of a father. Their enemy's reign was short-lived, as another battle allowed Keanu's pack to take back their land.

They lived in peace for a long time until Keanu's father had an affair with a young oracle and was caught in the act by his mother. A terrible fight tore his parents apart and cause their pack to disband. His mother left them never to be seen again and his father took to a life of seclusion in the islands tropical forest, leaving them all to fend for themselves.

Fed up with their parent's selfish ways, Keanu along with his other siblings left the island and traveled south in search of a new home.
