His mother is one of Tortuga's most notorious scouts who spends most of her time away, pillaging and plundering other packs' resources. The product of a fling which occurred during one of these unscrupulous excursions, Kraken and his siblings were raised by their single mother, with lots of help from her ruffian pack.

At four months of age, Kraken decided to prove his worth to a mother that did not seem to care if her whelps lived or died by going on a self-assigned scouting mission. In the chaotic life of Tortuga, it wasn't difficult for the young boy to leave undetected—though he had never expected to be whisked away by a she-wolf that called herself <i>siren</i> in almost the same instant that he stepped beyond Tortuga's territory.

Legends of the Sirens were commonplace amongst the wolves of Tortuga, and much of their myth was proven true to Kraken as he lived as their captive. After several months of living in the seclusion of their cove, Kraken was invited on a hunting trip—where he soon made his escape, determined to keep his independence rather than become a servant of the sirens.
