An ex-pat of Jullundhar (a coven of long-escaped wolves just south of the Teekon), Anu has shed his birth title Akal-Rama to engage in his coming-of-age rite to become Ekarvarni. Anu must venture into the wilds to convert his kith to their rightful doctrine, which worships no god but instead believes all wolves fulfill a certain destiny. To die without completing the Ekarvarni is to die with dishonor. Each wolf's rite is decided by their caste, and by their birth sign -- Anu belongs to the akal caste, those that teach -- and his birth sign is the hawk, which means he must travel and share his knowledge with those unfamiliar with his doctrine. Anu presently travels with his child-hood friend and fellow chela, the volgra Anti.
