Jounist was born outside of Teekon Wilds in Montana. She practically could have been apart of any one of the packs that home themselves in the Wilds. She just never ventured that far. Jounist traveled with her mom, Haven and for a short while her sister Jayme. They were apart of no pack, followed no ranks, and had no need to show dominance. All she knew was survival and the will to live. Though with her mom in the picture, she didn't have to take it that seriously. Her family was never whole, and her father; never seen.
Jounists mother had been a wandering wolf, and never established a partnership with her father. He was simply a missing piece to her life, but never had a real reason to wonder who he was. She didn't know anything about him. And, she didn't care to learn. Why figure out something that's not important? Especially when they didn’t consider how it would have made her felt by not being there to protect them.
Haven told her that Jayme had a littermate at one time, but that he did not survive. Haven explained that she and her sister were hunting, when a bear approached them after killing off a deer calf. The bear had acted aggressively but Ace, the brother who did not make it; tried to defend their food. It had been a good two-three days since they had a decent meal. He acted out of hunger, and still young he didn’t know his limits to back off. The bear attacked and all Haven could do was try to get her young to retreat. Jayme was the only one who listened. Ace stayed behind, and it didn’t take long before he was killed. The bear attempted to take the lifeless body with him, but settled for the small, yet decent kill of the deer calf. An easy meal for a large predator. The bear retreated with the kill. Haven buried Ace at the den that she gave birth at.
When she was born, Jounist was a single pup litter. Her mothers’ age was increasing, her fertility decreasing. She couldn't produce as many offspring as she once had. Being born in the summer, the weather wasn't too bad, and the food was persistent. She didn't have any reason to starve. She didn't really have a reason to believe that she needed to question her life. This was all she knew. Scavenge, survive, and thrive. Eat what other animals felt were ‘undesirable’ and maybe you might have a shot at life.
As soon as she was able to, Jounist began to take the role of a hunter. Jayme and Haven were her examples. She observed and was ready to start to show off some of her own independence. She learned to be grateful and strip every piece of meat off the bones of the animals that were hunted. Growing up, Jounist had the benefit of having another older sibling, Jayme. Jayme was from the previous litter; but she was only her half-siblings as they had different fathers.
As the seasons passed, Joun and her older sister, along with her mother; always traveled. It was dangerous to stay in one location for long. Having rival wolves know your location isn’t the most comforting. Haven was a vulnerable mom with two young who couldn't yet provide on their own.

When Joun reached the age of one, her sister was matured at two. What Joun didn't know was that Haven spoke to Jayme into leaving them, to seek security in a protected pack. All Joun knew was that her older sister had left. Jayme didn't even say goodbye, and Joun assumed it was because she didn't want to leave in the first place. Maybe it was hard on her. She grew up with one sibling, only for him to die in a hunting incident. And now, she had to leave her only other blood-related sibling. She was there one day, and gone the next. Jounist was now going on her second year of life, but instead of having her mother and her sister, she only had her mother.
When Jayme left, Joun lost purpose in life. All the days that they would tumble and crash were now just a memory. She only had one friend, which was her mom. Living with just one canine wasn't enough. She needed to communicate, she needed to be comforted. When she matured at the age of two, she decided it was time to move on as well. She had lived two years packless. Venturing the lands in search for hope, in search of a friend. She got as desperate as to befriend a bird; of which she only saw occasionally. Her mother didn’t approve of this friendship. She said that birds, and all small beings were easy food for the weak. But that’s not what Joun believed. What she saw was a friend. The bird was a female Western Meadowlark. She would follow Joun and fly ahead of her, landing from branch to branch. There were times where Joun wouldn’t see her friend for days, weeks. But she always knew when to come back.
Although she didn't want to leave her mother Haven, her mother assured her that she would be okay. She knew all the basics to survive. Although, she didn't know much about packs. Haven refused to leave the life of a lone wolf, even with her age being nine now. The chances of her surviving on her own were slim. Unless she kept to herself.
Jounist went off after a year of living with Haven alone. She wanted more in life. She wanted to prove her worth. She had survived this long, packless. So she assumed that she was worth something to someone. If anything, death wasn’t so bad, right?
