Beast was only a couple of months old when his den was raided by a grieving ursine, whom struck whilst his pack was out on hunting. This raider had recently lost her own cubs, and so in her grief, she had stolen away Beast and Wilding to have as her own. The pair had become inseparable, while not litter mate, they were joined at the hip and their relationship showed. Their ursine mother had taught them to survive the best that she had known, which would only help to alienate them from other wolves in their future, as they would scavenge nuts and berries when meat was scarce, and spent days fishing during the mating seasons. Beast had quickly forgotten what little he had learned from his pack, short of how important his pack was to him, and thus he spoke naut, even to his other half. He was adept however, at reading body language and understanding tones, and simply understanding his better half with a mere glance.

When the pair were of maturity, they were chased out of the pack they had come to know, confused and distraught as their ursine mother shattered their worlds. The strife only served to drive the two closer together, fusing them not only at the hip, but at the very core of their beings. They taught themselves how to hunt larger prey with some coordinated efforts, though nearly losing their lives in that process. Then the earthquake hit, as if their world had not already been shook to the core, driving out their would be prey, draining the only source of nearby water from the place they had wished to call home for them and their would be pups, forcing the pair to seek a new home...
