The god of the wood was offered the good mother, and upon creating an heir the ritual of the blood untied the knots which bound Enkil to them; he was to be the next god of the wood in service to the devout. Acting in accordance to his sire's wish to die, he performed patricide, and fled in to the night. They expected his return, for he was the oracle, and they could not function without him. He did not look back.

as god-of-the-wood he would have been forced to live alone while various tribes "protected" him in surrounding areas, coming to him to settle disputes, heal the sick, bless unions, etcetera. whether he has the skills to support this lifestyle is not important. they believed all knowledge is passed down from progenitor to child, and as he is the son of their previous god-of-the-wood he would hold all the secrets. the actual faith of these tribes is inspired by ancient assyrian / babylonian myth, various egyptian and hittite beliefs, and loose druidic structure. each tribe is closer in make-up to a lion pride (one leader, many women, women do the hunting & childcare, men defend their claim) with a caste-system built in (the "best" territories going to "the deserving"; typically those who have been blessed by the god-of-the-wood in previous iterations). when a new god-of-the-wood ascends to their role there is upheaval - and in enkil's case, disaster, considering he did not return to govern.
