Profile of Mordecai: Details
Appearance

Artwork by Karm
While he borrows his appearance from both of his parents, Mordecai strongly resembles his father in overall build. From his mother however, strong and vivid shades of russet and gold compose the majority of his body, accented by dark guard hairs and complimented by rich, creams and browns. Like others of his family, he retains the notable Ostrega eye color, a rich and warm gold unmarred by any other dominant hue. Mordecai is not an imposing creature by any means, though he is muscular and somewhat tall for his species. There is a certain sleekness to his build however, doting smoothly on the notion that he is built for endurance, but not lacking entirely in speed or in strength.

Following an assault by a certain cougar roaming the Wilds, there is more definition to his aging frame in the way of deep scarring. The right side of his body bears the brunt of this — a gouged shoulder, a gruesome notch to his lip, and the sunken grim absence of his right eye are among the most visible. All other scars are minute and nondescript, barring long healed wounds on his scruff that are normally masked beneath his coat from an attack.
Personality

Artwork by Bartok
An intelligent, observant being, Mordecai attempts to think before he acts, though this is not necessarily always the case. Finding life a constant learning experience, he adapts to what suits him best at any given moment, in turn lending him a note of unpredictability. While raised primarily with a strong sense of hierarchy and family, he is most devout to curiosity and wanderlust that at times are not readily tamed; Mordecai can be, at times, headstrong and defiant as a result. At his core, he is relatively composed and collected, confident in his own abilities and unafraid to show it when the time deems it to be right.

Though good natured and friendly by default, his time spent and decision to settle in the Teekon Wilds have caused a gradual shift of his personality. Present and prior stints of leadership have invoked a certain strain to the softer aspects of him and in turn, he is much more reserved. Mordecai is not one to speak of himself or parts of his history and avoids such, though this does not stop from investigating others out of caution. He is prone to moments of bitterness when things go awry, and can be equally reclusive beyond the call of duty.

Biography
Born one of many children between Leviathan and Chena Ostrega, Mordecai's beginnings were anything but chaotic. The middle child of a litter of three, he had the good fortune of being neither the biggest or the smallest, but still gleaned that he would have plenty to live up to and contend with. Early on he proved to be resistant to be bent to the way things were, and was captivated by wanderlust. Such behavior invoked much aggravation in his father and worry in his mother, but also equal parts of both in his siblings. There eventually came a time when Mordecai simply decided he wanted to see what the world offered. With pieced together stories of his youth and curiosity at the helm, when the option came up to disperse and venture out, he took it. Not the first or the last of his siblings and extended family to tread down that path, Mordecai has lived in many packs, seen many places, and has encountered a variety of individuals. His travels eventually brought him to the Wilds, where for the better part of three years, Mordecai resided within many locales within the region.

In the Teekon Wilds, a quick glance at his history could suggest that he both flourished and to some extent, still refused to be entirely willing to settle. His first foray at joining up with a pack turned swiftly into a move and within a matter of months, he found himself at the helm of Ouroboros Spine following a tumultuous switch up of leadership. Though well-liked for the most part, the mantle did not suit him in his opinion and finding it unbecoming to lead, he soon departed for different climes outside the Wilds for a time. This also did not last long as he eventually sought refuge with Blacktail Deer Plateau come winter, cashing in favors with an old friend in exchange for housing, finding the creature comforts of the Wilds hard to replace. Somewhere in this span he felt the inclination to settle and as he begun to do so, trouble brewed in more than one place on the horizon. With pulled heart strings for another—Harlyn, who desired a claim of their own—and growing discomfort with the doings beyond the Plateau's borders, he was stuck with the decision to stay or go once again.

Come summer, he dispersed on sour notes from the Plateau to follow Harlyn. Along the way, the pair amassed a small group as they crossed over the Sunspire Mountain range, eventually settling what seemed a remote location in the nearby Rising Sun Valley in an area they deemed Lost Creek Hollow. Life there was idyllic for a time and finally things settled for a time. But their remote location was not so remote either; fortunately however the nearby packs did not pose much worry and ultimately as winter came knocking at their doorstep, disbanded in a matter of weeks of the Hollow's founding. It was also in this timespan that Mordecai had begun to formally court Harlyn. This was a courtship cut short by surprise but concreted their devotion to one another after Mordecai narrowly survived an assault by a cougar and lost an eye. Left to heal over the winter, he became noticeably withdrawn.

On the cusp of spring to the Wilds, Mordecai and Harlyn welcomed their first litter—Larkspur, Pippin, and Silas—and thus begun a new set of troubles that plagued both the pack, and Mordecai himself. Within days of the first thaw to the valley, it became clear that the prey was not keen on returning. Given the isolation of the Hollow in comparison to others gave them a wide range to search for prey and surprisingly on these excursions, their numbers dwindled sharply. With pups to care look after and tend to, the Hollow was eventually driven to the point of disbanding only a handful of months after its foundation. It was a merciful stroke of luck that they happened upon the leader of Maurader's Keep to the north and took his offer to join their meager numbers. But even then, whatever idyllic sense of balance that had existed was no longer.

Within weeks of their arrival at the Keep, Pippin disappeared and the structure of the Keep went through dramatic shifts in leadership. Shortly thereafter on an excursion in search of Pippin, Mordecai and Larkspur stumbled upon the borders of Blackrock Depths along the coast. Larkspur bolted from the danger that the coastal wolves posed and in his attempt to stay with her, both Mordecai and his daughter were captured and subsequently thrown to the ocean waters to be left for dead. Mordecai washed up on shore some time later, disoriented, weakened, and alone, and began a futile search for Larkspur along the shores. When he could not find her and presumed her dead, he set off to make the trip back to the Keep in debate of how best to explain the story. By the time he arrived back at the Keep, Larkspur, who had turned up days prior, was already there. Unbeknownst his daughter was there, Mordecai's inclusion to this was met with Larkspur's tumble from a cliffside.

The final straw in an already aching heart in the days to come, Mordecai packed up what remained of his family and set off once again. With the original intention having been to take Larkspur to healers in the distant east, it is undetermined whether or not such a journey was completed, or successful.

And the rest of the story remains untold, and concluded.
