As the only puppy in Amunet's first litter, Renatus was treated with doting love and care. Sobek's Maw was their home for the first year of his life. He was taught to worship and pray by the women who worked alongside his mother. Passing soldiers would teach the boy to fight and defend himself. He found proficiency in what was taught to him and used it over the other children in the Maw.

As a yearling, Renatus was sent by Amunet into the fields of battle. He returned victorious, each time. She believed that he was blessed by the gods and she sent him on a mission to find new grounds for their home and family.
