Psamathe was born in Themiscrya Coast, and from her birth onward was raised with the traditional beliefs of the Nereides who inhabited the great homeland. She showed promise early in her life as a Sea Nymph and was taken under the wing of a crone, Arethusa, who was the first to discover that Psamathe was gifted in the art of scrying. Psamathe had foreseen an ambush in the waters, and near her year and a half mark, was instrumental in preventing a male attack on one of the Nereides raiding parties. For this particular gift and strength in the faith and spirituality of the Nereides, Psamathe was named an Adept.<br/><br/>On one of her solo tracking missions, Psamathe was attacked and nearly raped by an outsider male. Though she had been raised with the same apathy all Nereides held toward males, the encounter made her resentful of males and their greed, and ever since, she has hated them.<br/><br/>Partially spurred by her experience, partially by a vision in the waters, and partially by a devotion to her great-grandmother's namesake, Psamathe departed Themiscrya Coast with Aktaiê to form a new branch of the Nereides, hoping to serve as its spiritual consultant for the time being. Reluctantly, Psamathe has tolerated Greyjoy's company as well, if only because she knows a consort is a necessity. She openly shows him disdain at any chance she gets.
