Born alongside twin sister, Rhælla and reared to someday rule as Emperor of the Lirea nation, Rhaelyx's youth was spent in his father's shadow - mentoring in the appropriate fields for a male heir: combat, battle, and stategy, hunting and fishing, survival, healing, botany, astrology, history, etc.

As a teen he began preparing for a position as his Lord father's righthand, grooming for marriage to a noble maiden not unlike his younger sister who would leave to fulfill a political marriage.

Rhælla would return unannounced shortly after their first nameday with news of her husband's death, confiding in him that she had poisoned the King of the Icadearians. When pressed, Rhæ would only state that she had good reasons and Rhaelyx swore to protect her secret.

It would be revealed later (in time Rhaelyx would discover his littermate's outing was the fault of a concealed spy) regardless and the Duchess' brother would be helpless to her imprisonment, disfiguration, and exile.

Shortly after Rhælla's banishment, Rhaelyx would begin plotting his own escape - as their father made moves to entrap him. At last, the young Lord of clan Veltigar would slip away on a hunt, bound south in search of his sister.
