What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - RIP Valette - December 23, 2017 ANOTHER PACK ACTIVITY WHEE! We will work in rounds! 30 DEC is next round.
@Murdock @Nikai @Banner @Stark @Aurelia @Mawk @Nanook @Ezekiel @Steph @Ezra Valette had been keeping her eye on the bison. She wanted to have a big meal for the whole of the pack plus she decided that it would be a good lesson for her pups to watch. She had promised Steph that she was allowed to look soon, only looking. Not running with them yet, especially since the bison were the most dangerous to encounter. Valette howled to the whole pack, meeting once again at Stone Circle. This time it was mostly because the children could watch the hunt on the plains below. The howl had less of an urge to it. It was layered with excitement. She hoped one of the adults wouldn't mind staying with her children to explain what they were doing. Valette was always eager for a hunt. The thrill of it made her tremble with excitement which had been heard in her howl. She would have to see who would show up, so they could divide the roles before going after the bison herd. It took careful planning. Valette noticed that one of the bison had been limping, so that was the one they were going to hunt today. However, to get the bison running in and creating panic was the most important. If they formed a defensive circle it would only be tougher to single out the injured one. Once some arrived, Valette started to explain. "One of the bison is limping. This is our time to strike. We must single that one out from the herd. We need wolves who make the herd run, and perhaps two that separate the limping bison." Valette glanced at her children with a smile. "You can watch from here with an adult. Any volunteers?," she asked. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Nanook - December 23, 2017 Yesterday's meeting still loomed on her heart like the threat of a rabid beast, and even with the call of a promising hunt, Nanook found the shadows hard to shake. Were they really safe with a mountain between them? Was Desna wise to rally the whole pack together? Shouldn't someone be watching the borders still? She wanted to trust her sister's judgments, and tried to push her reservations from her mind. Still, she didn't know if she could get her focus fully into the hunt, and knew her double mindedness would make her more of a liability than a help. So at the request for someone to stay behind, Nanook bit with her offer. "I can stay back with the kids." Though the task would demand her full attention, it would also allow her to play sentinel, and keep one ear propped for any disturbances coming from the forest behind them. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Mawk - December 25, 2017 Sorry for awful post *-*
Mawk's head raised to the sky as the call rose up, and he was quick to follow it to the source. As his large paws brought him forward, the wolfdog perked his black tipped ears and trailed his gaze to Valette, sending a smile to Nanook as he spotted her too.
He listened to the alphess talk, and then once she finished he spoke up. "I can do whatever is needed." He nodded - for whether he was to single out the limping bison or make the herd run, he'd be glad to help. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Aurelia - December 25, 2017 With her ears inmediately swiveling atop her head, the Lockhart turned towards the distant sound of her Alpha's summons. She left what she was doing and took off, her feet moving quickly as if the touch of the snowy surface of the ground was too cold to bear for more than a couple of seconds. She arrived after a couple of her packmates, and the children, were aready gathered so trying her best not to draw attention away from the green eyed Alpha, Aurelia slipped silently to the side. As the plan was being laid out Aurelia looked at the wolves that were next to her, despite being a member of Easthollow for a good while now, their faces and names were foreign to her. Shameful truly. As this thought circled her mind, a pretty silvery girl beated Aurelia as she offered to stay back with the kids first. The banshee bit the tip of her tongue, though she was a skilled hunter herself the size of their target made her nervous. Aurelia was more of a small-game girl, but she could put her great speed and swiftness to work here too. "i will do whatever im told" she barked shyly, her eyes seeking the green of Valette's own. Though Aurelia definitely had a feral, wild side to her, since meeting Valette being submissive and following rules had become easy. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Stark - December 27, 2017 With thoughts of war and looming threats still close in mind Stark had felt more....prickly than normal. That was typically Banner's forte, and Stark tended to hide it in other less productive measures. This time though he kept himself more centered around the pack and it's land just on the off chance that someone came knocking that wasn't meant to be there. This time Val's call seemed almost pleasant - something utterly different to her tone and call than the one that had sounded before. Stark responded quickly, approaching the masses to hear what Valette had in mind.
When it came to bison Stark didn't have as much experience. They hadn't snuck around the willows often, and the largest prey his territory had seen was in the moose that had taken up part of the territory. Still, this would last them a long time, and with winter already taking over it would be good for them to down the massive beast. "I'll be happy to create some chaos. If we get them running, it'll be easier since the injured one won't be able to keep up. It should fall behind fairly quickly." And Stark had never been afraid to get into the thick of things when it came to hunting. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Steph - December 28, 2017 When Steph awoke that morning, she figured it would be just another day. She would wander around, see what trouble she could get into. But, then, her mother's howl reached her. She expected for the adults to be called, but when it included Steph and her siblings, she knew the day had finally come that she'd be able to see a hunt in action. She ran to Stone Circle, her face alight with glee. Steph didn't mind that she had to stay here. She was simply happy she got to watch. Her tail wagged when Aunt Nanook offered to stay with the youngest of the pack. She couldn't wait for the "chaos" that Stark was going to make. Her gaze looked out over the bison herd, hoping they would get started soon. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Nikai - December 29, 2017 They were lucky today, it seemed, as there was a herd of bison with one limping; hopefully they'd be able to catch it. Nikai listened to Valette as she explained what they were to do and then to Stark as he said he could create some chaos and get the bison running. "I can help separate the limping bison when the herd's running," said Nikai. It seemed like a dangerous task but he was confident that he could do it and that he'd do well in it. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Clary - December 30, 2017 True, Clary had never been as enthralled as her sister with the hunt - it was simply something that had to be done - but she tremored with excitement as the adults discussed their plans around her nonetheless. Down in the meadow, the bison looked clueless, still grazing around like any ordinary day - and while this made her feel a bit sorry for them, Clary knew their deaths would mean life for the pack, just like with the smaller things they tracked and killed to eat. She shuffled about as the adults planned, unable to sit still, and wriggled between the older wolves until she reached her siblings. Steph looked excited, but held a composure Clary had always lacked. Her own tail beat much too fast and her whole body shook, eagerly pitched forward so as to not miss the action that would unfold - and she wished she could be doing more than just watching. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Banner - December 30, 2017 Her arrival had come hot on Stark's heels. Banner was curious as to why their Alpha would call all of the adults back to their meeting place, but at least her summoning howl was less somber in tone than it had been previously. Banner sidled up to her taller brother, rubbing her side affectionately against his. She wanted to give him a better greeting (as she usually did!) but now was not the time. Though she knew it was impolite, she didn't pay much mind to everyone else - the exception being Valette, of course. They'd been called here for a reason and she had a feeling it wasn't for social hour.
I'll create a scene with Stark, she offered in a voice just loud enough that all of her packmates could hear. She turned up to look at him, bright green eyes shining with good humor. Neither of them had experience with bison, but they sure as hell had plenty of experience with making a scene. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Murdock - January 01, 2018 *zooms in*
Murdock arrived a bit late, as he'd been far across the territory when the call rose up. He made sure to stay in the background, flying under the radar as it were. He'd been feeling strangely hunted since returning to the territory with Poppy in tow, and Steph's continued alienation of him only reinforced that. The dog had become his only friend, and although he took great comfort in the sweet, young creature, it just wasn't the same as the bond he'd shared with Steph. He felt he'd ruined everything by leaving for so long. But that didn't mean he was exempt from his duties, and hunting ranked pretty high on his list of priorities. The male lined up with the other wolves and listened in on their conversation, hoping to get the run-down on the situation through osmosis rather than through direct interaction. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - RIP Valette - January 02, 2018 Woops New Years got me, next round is on the 9th!
Valette was pleased to see so many faces. Valette nodded at Nanook. "Alright, you can stay with the children," she smiled. Valette was growing excited with the idea of so much meat for her pack. They would be able to eat from that bison for days! "Okay. Stark, Banner and Nikai, you will separate the limping bison. If you can herd it in the direction of the woods that would be wonderful. We could use the trees as a barrier. Mawk, Aurelia, Murdock and I will drive the herd towards the Moor," she explained. It was good for the kids to hear as well what they were planning. 'Once you have the limping bison separated will we join you. Watch out for their horns and kicks. Try to bite and weaken it by biting its sides," she gave a tip. Even Valette never managed to take down a bison before. They were a tough prey but they had the advantage now. The limping bison wouldn't be able to keep up with the herd and they were with many. "Let's make them run," Valette smirked. She truly loved to hunt. It was important to cause panic and make them run, otherwise, they couldn't separate the limping one. Bison weren't like deer. Valette knew this now. They didn't run as quick as a herd of deer would run. This bison herd could become defensive and that is the least they wanted. Valette howled, the hunt started with a lot of howls, yips and other noises the alpha female started to run at the bison herd. With a deer herd one would never use such tactic but with the bison, it was a different case. They needed to be impressed first. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Nikai - January 03, 2018 Nikai had never hunted bison and he felt a nervous jitter in the pit of his stomach at the thought. He nodded as he was tasked with separating the bison and listened to the explanation that Valette gave. Nikai made mental note to avoid the hooves and head, but he knew bison to be rather large; but slow, too, he was pretty sure from watching them move, so he just needed to be quick on his feet to avoid getting hit. As Valette howled Nikai yipped excitedly, joining in the chorus of excitement. Then he followed as Valette started to run, keeping an eye on Stark and Banner to make sure that he'd stay close to them. Since they seemed to know each other well and seemed better matched with each other he decided it'd be easiest and safest in working together to follow their lead and tag onto their plans. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Ezra Wolf - January 03, 2018 Ezra had popped in a bit late, tired yawns escaping him as he joined the hunting party. Most of the words he heard scrambled around in his half-awake brain while he walked and eventually drifted over to his siblings where he plopped to the ground. He blinked a few times, watching his sisters as they visibly expressed their excitement and interest. Meanwhile Ezra was doing what you’d expect, remaining calm and collected while he watched the group disperse and take their designated places. He had never taken to hunting like Steph had. Sure he would partake in a few tracking expeditions here and there but that was about it. Other than it being a necessary skill in order to survive, Ezra held little to no interest in the trade. But despite his lack of enthusiasm, the rho held himself upright and watched with thoughtful eyes, fully prepared to take whatever he could from this lesson. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Mawk - January 03, 2018 Mawk listened silently, nodding affirmatively as he was given his role. Herd the bison toward the moor. It sounded like a simple task, but he assured himself it was probably a lot harder than it seemed. He knew that hunting large prey required much more work, his first experiences having been in Ganador, with Gwen and the others (having been born into a house with man) - that seemed like a lifetime ago. She had returned to his mind but the other day, and he wondered what had become of the former alphess now.
As Valette began to move, he aided her as his paws thundered down on the ground, moving fast. His eyes were moving rapidly around the scene, from the alphess to those who were going to split off the bison, and he prepared to herd it to the moor as he'd been told. Excitement burned through his veins, but also slight nerves. He would have to be incredibly mindful of the bison's movements. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Murdock - January 12, 2018 Murdock heeded Valette's orders, feeling much more comfortable after she'd addressed him without any pause. It seemed that his friendship with Poppy was not worth enough for Valette to stay angry over, and Murdock decided that he, too, was above the fact that Valette wanted to eat his dog. When it came to that, he'd defend Poppy. Until then, they could live in peace. He trotted off with his companions to position themselves, following the lead of the other, younger wolves. He'd been on many hunts, but he was not cut out of leadership, and would only voice his opinion if he felt the others were making a grevious mistake. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Steph - January 16, 2018 Murdock's arrival did not slip past Steph, whose gaze was pointed at him. There was no anger there any longer, only sadness. She didn't know if they would ever make up, but she was under the assumption that since Murdock had Poppy, he didn't need her any longer. Otherwise, he would have come for her, wouldn't he? Valette began to speak and Steph's attention turned to her, excitement welling up in her at being able to watch the hunt. The other's took off and Steph ran to the edge of the Stone Circle, making sure not to go any further. She knew if she did anything wrong, Valette wouldn't let her watch again, let alone participate. Her ears perked and her eyes were wide as the group set up to single out the injured bison. She looked to Clary and Ezra, the latter seeming uninterested in what was going on. But, her attention was quick to go back to the hunting party. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - RIP Valette - January 18, 2018 Sorry for the delay! New Round! Round ends: 25th of Jan
Valette started to run towards the herd with a lot of sound coming from the female. They needed to scare the bison and make them run. Valette nipped at their legs and made sure to not have them in a defensive circle by trying to jump on them or trying to give her a chase. Valette was yipping and yowling in happiness. She really liked hunting. For once, she didn't think about the kids, just about the hunt. The Bison started to run and Valette howled to her group to drive them out towards the Moor. Now it was up to @Stark, @Banner and @Nikai to drive the limping Bison the other way in the chaos. Valette trusted that they would be able to do that. Once the herd was separated enough from the injured one they could come and help the trio. Then along battle of Stamina would begin. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Nikai - January 18, 2018 Nikai started to run, knowing that Banner and Stark would be closeby and in tow. He'd never faced a bison before and felt nervous to face one now. Whatever happened outside of their little group of three he had no idea of, so focussed was he on what was going on right within his circle. It was just him, his two companions and the limping bison now. The rest of the group moved away, the limping bison falling short of the group slowly but surely and Nikai positioned himself between bison and group, hoping to herd him away. With deer this would be a good tactic for they were smaller and weaker, but the bison was having none of it, knowing that it would mean its end if it would stay behind. He wasn't letting himself get guided away so easily, and especially not by a wolf standing smack-dab in its way; it required more tactics than that. Nikai however didn't know that and even as he stood and barked, jumped around and made himself as big as he could the bison mowed right into him and knocked him over, causing him to fly backwards a ways. Pain seered through his body — both where he landed, on his right hip, as well as his left back leg and shoulder where the bison'd hit him. Dazed, Nikai tried to get up but found himself unable to move. The limping bison missed him narrowly as it tried to follow the herd, and he hoped that Banner and Stark would do better than him. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Murdock - January 20, 2018 The hunt seemed to be going well until Murdock saw Nikai going for the limping beast. He had high hopes until the younger male fell, and Murdock broke away from his group with a shout of warning toward Valette, already making his way toward Nikai before he realized he was leaving the others wide open to more injuries. Moving back toward the others, he did his best to herd the bison away from Nikai, while also keeping them as close as he could to the rest of the hunting party. He kept his ears open to more shouts of instruction, and his eyes strayed often to the rest of his pack members. Nikai still hadn't gotten up. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Banner - January 21, 2018 Hot on Nikai's heels, Banner had front row seats to the spectacular front her packmate put up as the bison barrelled toward them. She gave a shout when he went down:
Nikai! Her green eyes went wide even as she ran by him. The short lady knew she had no time to debate whether she should stop to see if he was alright or keep moving. If the pack was to pull off this hunt, she needed to press on. However, that didn't mean she felt nothing when her packmate went down. A vicious snarl ripped out of her, the volume and magnitude of it seeming so out of place coming from a wolf her size. Something in Banner snapped and she saw red. Her heartbeat quickened as she allowed the anger to course through her uninhibited. It had been so long since she'd felt like this. Later she'd feel shame at being so unhinged around her packmates. But now..? The rage building up and making her skin feel itchy and tight caused her to give in the reckless behavior. As she came upon the bison who had cut down Nikai, she snarled once more before launching herself at one of the beast's hind legs. Luckily her sharp teeth found purchase on the bison's thigh, just above the knee joint. It let out a great cry but pressed on at a slightly slower pace. Banner clamped her jaws tight and growled as she attempted to gain her footing and dig her paws into the ground to create resistance. She was only one wolf, though, and she wasn't able to stop the damn thing herself, so she remained attached and attempted to keep herself upright while hoping the bison didn't get far enough to rejoin the herd. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - RIP Valette - January 26, 2018 Next round in a week!!
When Valette thought they chased away the herd far enough to her liking she lessened the pressure on the herd. Curiously enough, she hadn't heard a howl coming from Nikai's group that they had it surrounded. Valette was a bit worried, hopefully, nothing happened. The alpha female yipped to her group to let the bison run further while they would go to Nikai, Banner, and Stark. When she turned, however, she only saw Banner really going after the bison. Perhaps, Stark and Nikai were on the other side. Valette rushed to them. In the thrill of the hunt, she loved to run and chase. When she came closer she noticed that Nikai was down. Valette instantly broke down in whines and diverted her route to Nikai. "Nikai!," she gasped and nosed over him. She instantly licked his face in worry. The thrill leaving her body and being replaced with worry. She let out short barks and howls to call the others back. The hunt was canceled. Maybe in a few days the bison would be weakened further and be easier to catch. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Murdock - January 30, 2018 Murdock broke away from the others, relieved that the hunt had been called off. He made sure the bison were heading away before trotting back toward Valette and Nikai, ears fanned back in concern. "Let's get him out of the open," he said to Valette, glancing over his shoulder. "If they decide they don't like us hanging around right here, he'll be in even more trouble." He crouched low to Nikai. "Can you walk?" RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Nikai - January 31, 2018 Nikai heard his name being called out but he couldn't tell who was doing it or how far away they were. When he looked around the world was spinning and he couldn't even tell which way was up or down. The first face he could decipher was Valette's as she stood over him, and he opened his mouth to say something. Instead of words, however, halfway through a sentence — "I'm—" — Nikai heaved a few times and then threw up next to where he had fallen down. Head still spinning Murdock appeared who said some words that Nikai couldn't tell apart, and then asked him to walk. " 'm Dizzy," he murmured but once more he tried to get to his feet. The moment he put pressure on his left back leg he yelped and fell down again. The rest of his body still hurt but it seemed that he could bite through the pain of it. Nikai, trying to lean against whoever of them was close, managed to get his weight under his front paws then and carefully put pressure on his right hind leg while keeping the wounded left one close to his stomach. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - Steph - January 31, 2018 All hell seemed to break loose as the bison didn't cooperate with the wolves' hunting plans. Steph's eyes widened when her brother got it, and she let out a yell, Nikai! She didn't hesitate to begin running towards her brother, going from zero to sixty in no time. She slid to a stop beside him as he was getting up, her eyes expression concern when he yelped in pain. She looked to Murdock, wondering if he could help. She was at a loss of what she could do, as she had never seen a wolf get hurt before. At least not like this. She whined with worry, dancing in place, as the adrenaline still coursed through her veins. She was terrified for him. RE: What said the bison to his son? Bi Son. - RIP Valette - February 02, 2018 Valette glanced at Murdock and nodded. He was still thinking rationally. The mother tried to help her son up but he threw up instead. Oh, that wasn't good. He would have to see Keoni. That was certain. Valette winced when her son yelped. They did need to get out of here. Valette stepped to his side and supported him. "Let's get you to safety." Valette made sure to take her time. "Steph. Stay close as well, these Bison are dangerous. Murdock, can you keep your eyes on her herd and see if they are coming after us?," Valette asked. She didn't want a bison charging at them. |
