RE: nightmares on wax - Tuwawi RIP - May 11, 2014

Tuwawi had been asleep in the comfort of the Sveijarn burrow when the shrieking snarls pierced through the dead of night. The banshee howls had come on fast, uninvited amidst the creek's twilight hours, and it was clear from the noises that a great fight was happening within Swiftcurrent. Songs rang out, summoning all warriors to arms, however noticeably excluding Tuwawi to the front. She did not heed this non-summons, and tore from her den the instant her body complied. Tawny legs moved like pistons as she careened through the woods and plains, charging towards where their assailants plotted their escape. Her teeth were bared, cardinal hair bristling with anticipation of the oncoming skirmish, whoever their enemies may be.

Pungent blood was ripe on the air and the scent grew stronger the closer Tuwawi drew. Inexplicably, it caused her pace to weaken despite the hunger to expunge these faceless intruders. Her body quivered, trapped between instincts never experienced before, until it paralyzed the to-be mother completely, just short of the treeline. Through the thick low-laying boughs she could spy a tangle of wolves... those she recognized and those she did not. Bazi, Ferdie, Fox, and Jace all fought the fiercest she had ever scene... bodies crumpled beneath their fangs; and in the pitch of night Bones screeched a plea, though it fell upon deaf ears. The seaside youth was been taken... torn... ripped from their ranks by fearless, dirty, sea-dwelling rats.

Tuwawi could do nothing.... immobilized by some intangible force; and she paced impatiently. Images of Jinx's tussle with the mountain lion came to the forefront of her mind, and how easily her unborn children had been wrenched into this dark world. She sneered at the pictures, shrinking away from the clearing lest her position be revealed. How badly she wanted to fight... to chase away those who dragged her beloved pack sister away. But she could not. She would not. Other lives depended on her now, and though she was shame to admit it, she cared more for the precious children within her own womb. Guilt and selfishness wrought through her core — but nature would not have it; and sheepishly she absconded across the forest floor, belly brushing the earth's loam. It was her only recourse.
