first Merrick's snarl, then her brother's looming presence. she rips her muzzle from the carcass and catches her father's eye; he is serious. she has broken the rules in her hunger.
giving him a sheepish look—and pointedly ignoring Aventus altogether—Avicus backs off, tail slightly between her legs. she is seething with silent anger, mixed with pride at having led a successful hunt. it isn't fair. . .
but not much was, these days, and so she waits for her betters to take their pound of flesh.
she will have hers soon enough, too.
