Hoof clipped me. Nothin' serious. Beasty had some fight in it.Kaiaka gave a wry grin, one she knew didn’t land. She followed it with a pained shrug, immediately regretting it as a sharp breath hissed through her teeth.
Damned ribs...she muttered under her breath.
Her gaze flicked to Mae, blood trailing down the other wolf’s face.
Yer bleedin’ like a spring. Hell of a look—suits ya,she added, dryly, trying to inject some levity into the moment. Anything to distract from her own pain.
Don’t stop eatin’ on my account. Ya earned it. That was the whole point, wasn’t it?
Part of her itched to step closer, to tend to Mae’s wound, wipe away the blood that streaked her face. But she held back, figured sudden tenderness might not be well received. Instead, she stayed put, watching Mae with quiet vigilance, ready to act if things took a turn.
