make me flesh - Lasher - November 15, 2015 for @Eigma <3
the clifftops held danger, but also the tender eggs of seabirds. lasher intended them for blue willow, and so, upon rising that morn, he washed his forepaws and muzzle in the small creek at donnelaith's midst, and emerged from the packlands to seek out pawholds for his climb. he must leave once his task had been completed, for he must not shirk his duties upon the plateau, but dante was aware that the druid made ready their new land. his ingress to a place atop the cliffs was a quite narrow path, but the man, with careful placement of his paws, was able to reach the top of the lowest ledge, and was rewarded with a nest of murre eggs -- he shooed away the helpless hen and stood devouring the yolks, pondering how he would carry one of the delicate morsels to blue willow. RE: make me flesh - RIP Eigma - November 22, 2015 Note to self: After meeting Kaylan / before she meets Regulus.
She'd gotten turned around a little turned around - but she blamed the ewe for that, and the broody lone wolf that had distracted her hunting. When the scent of sea salt hit her nose, she knew she had gone too far. Then again, Eigma had never seen the great big ocean, so maybe the detour would be worth it. She moseyed along, picking her way through the reeds until the dirt turned to gravel, and the gravel turned in to fine points of sand. Her paws sank in to the grains strangely - and for a few minutes, the woman loomed over the nearest patch of sand and kneaded it with her toes, testing it, acclimatizing. Deciding she did not like the feeling of sand between her toes, Eigma headed back to the real world; she found a path heading along the cliffside and followed it, stopping only when she heard the call of angry birds - and spotted a wiry dark wolf. RE: make me flesh - Lasher - November 22, 2015 he had begun upon his third egg rather greedily when the scent of another wolf greeted his nares, and lasher turned with a sudden bristle of guard hairs to face the creature who watched. despite the distance between them, the lovely wariness of her amber eyes were apparent, and he relaxed somewhat, for she had not immediately posed a threat. his plume waved once, beckoning her closer, but he did not speak for the present. RE: make me flesh - RIP Eigma - November 22, 2015 He did not seem offended by her presence. Was this another lone wolf like herself, with the world as his oyster? The thought of dealing with yet another silent-but-deadly predator was off-putting; but he waved her over with his tail, seemingly pleasant while gorging himself on... Something just out of her sight. Cautiously, Eigma approached. Her body displayed an adopted wariness, but her eyes were curious, and the closer she got the more she learned. He was not a lone wolf - the scents he carried were varied and layered - and he was older. Perhaps an alpha in his own right. Eigma sniffed at the air but did not get too close to whatever he was munching on; that would've been rude. It smelled foreign to her, regardless. RE: make me flesh - Lasher - November 22, 2015 she drew near, with the innate wariness of a lone creature writ into the natural utterances of her unspoken language. lasher had only assumed the wolf to be female, but now that he was able to draw scent, he found this to be confirmed, along with an absence of packscent. "hello," he murmured warmly, before pushing the cracked eggshells from the edge of the ledge. "this cliff is littered with nests; the mothers are easy to dissuade from their eggs. would you like to join me in gathering? the bounty will be well worth it." he paused for a moment, then turned and began to climb into the higher reaches of the path. if she followed, it would be well, if she did not, he had left two eggs untouched in their hen's nest. there was no need to be piggish now, not when the clifftop was scattered with the birds' largesse of clutches. RE: make me flesh - RIP Eigma - November 22, 2015 He seemed amiable enough, and she listened with her eyes upon the prize. The eggs were settled upon a bed of dried grass and feathers, but they didn't look appetizing - just round. Eigma had never eaten eggs before, so she was a bit perplexed when the stranger so freely offered them. She stayed rooted to the spot as he departed, studying the odd spheres; poking them with her nose and sniffing at the nests, finding only bird scent. And when she turned her head, she saw the shadow had drifted away - so she followed, wordless at first. When she crested the nearest ridge upon the path, she looked around and muttered, "Wouldn't you rather eat a bird?" There was meat on a bird. Bones to chew on, feathers to use.. For whatever reason. She'd never had a den so that thought didn't cross her mind; but they were meaty, and that was real food. What could eggs offer? RE: make me flesh - Lasher - November 22, 2015 he thrust his muzzle into another nest, turning at her words with pleasure that she had followed. "not always. the flesh of seabirds is unappealing to my palate. salty." with that, he cracked another egg and licked up the yolk with relish. "have you had such before?" he asked of his companion. "they shall not be here for long. partake while they remain." he continued on in the same vein, until he collected three passably flawless orbs. the question now was how to transport them to his mate, but he would not ask aid of the strange woman. nosing about their smooth shells, he glanced to his companion. RE: make me flesh - RIP Eigma - November 22, 2015 He was talking, and while she listened, Eigma turned to look down the slope of the path she had just walked. She saw the hazy mountains - a line of distant gray - and gave a small sigh. Clearly distracted, she almost missed his question; after an idle pause characterized by his own cracking of shells and slurping of contents, she realized it was her turn to speak. "No. I'm from.." everywhere, really. "Inland. Never seen the sea, or eaten from the shore." The woman drank in a deep breath of the salty air, and licked her lips, finding that some sand had gotten netted by the fur of her chin. She looked behind herself again, pondering her route - or maybe just unsure if she should linger too long here. RE: make me flesh - Lasher - November 22, 2015 "i am unused to the ocean also -- i am a man of inner lands as well." he found a fourth egg and mouthed it carefully in jaws grown gentle despite their great strength, and here he brought it to the woman. "you are alone, and have traveled far if you are an inland creature," he murmured softly. "i am lasher, also called taltos, and i seek to claim the forest of great trees and bring my wolves here to settle." he paused. "if you are interested, i shall tell you more." he went back to the trio of eggs, fussing over them as he sought to discover the way for proper transport. RE: make me flesh - RIP Eigma - November 22, 2015 A migration? That's what it sounded like to her. A group of wolves needing a new home, for whatever reason. But why settle here on the coast, especially if he was unsure? What a strange man. "Perhaps I will return this way," was all she said; no promises, considering the road that lay ahead of her. "I have been offered another home... But I'm nervous of that as well. Hm," Her brow furrows. Eigma thinks of the boy-king's tasks, and feels the doubt in her heart. "What would you require of me?" Unsure, and not knowing if Charon's ways were the ways of all pack wolves, Eigma must ask. She is made more wary because of the strangeness of this area, and the pleasantly offered gift the dark wolf carries to her. Before she accepts it, she needs an answer. RE: make me flesh - Lasher - November 22, 2015 she pondered the offer; she had been offered another home, and with winter coming, lasher too pondered her own unsurety. why was she loathe to take the offer? why had she not accepted upon extension? perhaps she wished more, and the trepidation upon her features told him this. lasher looked to the murre-eggs, then to the woman. "i would have you help me carry these," he answered gently. his eyes rested briefly upon the lucid terra-cotta of her eyes -- he would not seek to dissuade her from her path, but upon his lips was the glen-title, and he spoke it into existence: "its name is donnelaith, the pack," taltos murmured, and then was still. RE: make me flesh - RIP Eigma - November 22, 2015 She dipped her head and tried to pick up the eggs as she was bade, being very careful so as not to break anything. The first egg did not sit well upon her tongue - she was not firm enough - and it rolled casually away from her snout. With a little snort, she tried again - but faltered when a nearby tooth touched the shell. It did not break, but Eigma was still surprised by the sensation. She paused to lick her lips, angle herself differently, and scooped up the prize; listening as the stranger spoke of his soon-to-be home, but said nothing (her mouth was full after all, and even if Eigma was a rogue, she was polite). Donnelaithe. The name sank in to her ears; she would remember it, in case her tasks failed her. Or the boy-king double crossed her on their deal. RE: make me flesh - Lasher - November 22, 2015 he would not fault her if one broke -- as it was, he himself was unable to capture both eggs within his jaws, and so one must be left for another time. he led the girl back down the footpath and toward the emerald forest that set in cold silence, welcoming the air of autumn. full as their mouths were with the precious cargo, they could not speak, but after a span of minutes, they were within distance of the carefully marked border. here he lay down the egg and looked to the woman with a surveying expression. "with this task you have aided in bringing sustenance to my pack. though it is small, the gesture of it, and your acceptance, means that you have fed myself, my mate, and my children, and i shall not forget it. that is my task -- there is a place now for you here, if you wish it, for i only needed know that you would give of yourself willingly." RE: make me flesh - RIP Eigma - November 22, 2015 Phone post! Excuse errors pls. She followed at a brisk pace, feeling (and looking) quite odd with the eggs in her mHipsteraw. When the travel came to a halt it was sudden, and Eigma had to steady herself before potentially walking in to the dark wolf. She placed the eggs down before they could break. "Thank you." Her tone was pure, heartfelt. To have thid potential haven ready for her granted dome relief... although, she was still unsure. Eigma moseyed away a few feet, then paused and canted her head back to watch him. "My name is Eigma. It was... nice to meet you." RE: make me flesh - Lasher - November 22, 2015 fade w your next post? <3
she did not accept, but he felt that she pondered his offer. he lowered his muzzle in an imitation of a bow. "the pleasure was mine, eigma," lasher murmured, filing aside the name in case the wolf returned. from the recesses of the dark forest he caught a glimpse of his shadow-furred mate, and so looked to the lone female. "i will bid you good day for now, but you know now where donnelaith is." with that, lasher lifted one egg of the pair and carried it into the shadeland, glancing behind himself once to see that eigma departed. RE: make me flesh - RIP Eigma - November 22, 2015 Fading! Ty, was fun. Eigma nodded when he bade her farewell, and watched his retreat. Movement shifted her attention away briefly, for she saw an obscured figure beyond the man. They shared a glance, and then the girl chose to wordlessly depart - mind filled with possibilities. |
