I'm a wild man and battle borne - Jace - December 10, 2015 Jace tiptoed among the pack lands, his tail above his back as he walked, though it would lower if any came near him of higher rank. It was strange to him, once upon a time, he had been top and leadership material. Now he was three folds away from non-existant. It was his own fault he supposed, he had been distant and melancholy, but the male had to find himself. he felt a little awkward still in his own skin, but he was growing better. He was no longer so troubled. Today he wanted a hunt, so he bent his nose and his body to the task. Following a trail, his nose low to the ground he went towards the smell of rabbit. Perhaps he could find them hidden deep within their dens sleeping if he dug quietly? RE: I'm a wild man and battle borne - Charon - December 13, 2015 i hope this is all welcome, but if it was for someone specific let me know and i can delete this :)
When the scent of rabbit caught Charon's attention, he realised how hungry he was and started to follow the trail. Charon worried for winter, especially since the bears were still a very real problem. He was working on plans to get rid of them, following them often to see where they went — and which of these places was best to fight them in — and how often they were together and how often they were alone, so that they could decide upon the perfect moment to attack them. After the bear problem was over, he could finally focus more readily on filling the pack's caches. For now, though, he really just needed a snack. When the young Alpha had almost reached the source of the scents (they were intensifying, at least, so Charon assumed there to be a warren nearby), he saw a dark figure not far off. He recognised the wolf from the bear event; he was one of the attackers, and from what Ame had told him Charon identified him as Jace. Charon felt a pang of envy at Jace's impulsive attack while he had stayed on the defense himself (again the moment he saw Atreyu's leg get snapped off like a twig replayed in his mind), but there was some admiration for his efforts, too. Charon chuffed to announce his presence. Though he held his body proudly, Charon did not show a request for submission in his body language; merely displaying his rank without putting anyone else down to theirs. He noted Jace was going in the same direction as he, and wondered if he was onto the rabbit trail, too. "Hey, you're Jace, right?" Charon said. He knew Jace had to know who he was, too, from Ame. Charon smiled amicably as he added: "I'm Charon. You on the rabbit trail, too? Want to see if we can catch some together?" They should well be able to catch some; with the two of them, if the rabbits were to flee they could seal off any second entrance with another set of teeth. RE: I'm a wild man and battle borne - Jace - December 13, 2015 Jace worried for winter, but not as much as others. He held a healthy respect in his alpha, she would figure out something to be done if times got tight. He had no doubt in his mind. He also didn't fear the bears, but Jace, Jace didn't fear much of anything other than having to talk to other wolves, and a female he liked. That was about it. Jace had been working on the caches when he could. Jace had not thought when he had rushed to the aid of his pack. His only thought was that they needed him and being a warrior born, he did his best to meet that need. He would lay down his life for all of them, and he wasn't sure if they knew that. Oh he knew Ame did, but he wasn't sure about the others. Jace heard the chuff and he stared, but he lowered his tail and averted his eyes. He didn't scrunch down though he probably should have. Jace was used to carrying himself well, even when he was low ranking, but he was respectful at least. Jace nodded his head. Yes I'm Jace. The next question and Jace flicked his ear forward for a moment, but again he nodded. Sure. How would you like to do it? I was thinking i could go in quietly and dig up their warren. But if there is two of us, we can possibly make noise at one end and chase them into the waiting jaws of the other. RE: I'm a wild man and battle borne - Charon - December 14, 2015 While Charon was glad to have run into Jace, he wasn't really sure what worth he held to the pack. He'd been loyal to Ame at the Sunspire for some time and in that regard, Charon viewed Jace kind of like he viewed Atreyu; a loyal pack member. Loyal to Ame, at least, but his body language showed that he was willing to at least respect Charon. Perhaps that was a good foundation to build future loyalty upon. Charon relaxed as he was given respect, tail falling to neutrality. Jace suggested they could make noise at one end to chase them out, and Charon nodded. "Let's check how many holes we can find. I like the idea of chasing them from one side to the other, 'cause it gives us a pretty big certainty for a meal." Trying to be quiet wasn't really Charon's thing, anyway. RE: I'm a wild man and battle borne - Jace - January 10, 2016 I apologize Iris. My threadlog was/is not letting me know when a reply is popping up and I didn't take the time to read down on who replied last. I apologize for that.
If Jace had been privy to the thoughts of the other he may have taken offense, but since he was not. He simply stood still lookign aorund, but avoiding the youth's eyes. He shifted from foot to foot while he studied how to take the warren of rabbits. Jace nodded his head and he motioned afterwards towards the right. You go that way and I'll go further this way to see if there's anymore than the one over the way. Yes we will eat well if we can chase them to one end. They are plump from getting ready for winter. It should be a nice meal to have. He turned with a wave of his tail and trotted towards the left searching for any other openings. RE: I'm a wild man and battle borne - Charon - January 12, 2016 No problem Danni <3
Jace laid out there plan, and Charon nodded at him as he suggested Charon go to the right. He wasn't entirely sure which his role was, but he would just check if there was another hole and a way for them to chase the bunnies from point one to two so they would ensure the biggest meal for themselves and the pack. Charon moved to the right as instructed and sniffed around until he found a fresh trail of bunny scent. There was a hole here and Charon heard rustling inside. He wanted to inform Jace but decided against it, for a shout could easily alarm them and send them running too soon. So he waited for Jace to send them his way if he found something on the other side. RE: I'm a wild man and battle borne - Jace - February 17, 2016 Okay so i'm going to try and take 5 minutes a day and just reply to everything. Hopefully my activity will boost again. <3
Jace watched as the youth followed his instructions, and he smiled ironically to himself. He was calling the poor boy a youth, when he wasn't much younger than Jace himself. Jace sometimes forgot about his age. That he was still so young, still had many years to live. Because goodness if he didn't feel much older than his years. Jace watched and then looked around locating only the one other hole. He bent his head forward and he hoped that Charon was ready. HE barked once, twice and then growled into the hole, listening to make sure that it vibrated, fairly certain they'd be running towards Charon now. He'd wait for a sight and if he needed too he'd join the other male in pursuit. RE: I'm a wild man and battle borne - Charon - February 18, 2016 yeah, it helps keep things up! when i've been absent i never feel inspired to reply to stuff because i'd just feel bad about all the stuff waiting ^^;
Charon waited silently, so that he would hear Jace when he'd start the pursuit. He didn't need to wait long, for soon Jace was barking down the hole. Charon missed the first rabbit coming out, but the second one, a medium-sized female, ran right into his jaws. He quickly snapped its neck. There was one rabbit halfway on its way out that leaped over the dead rabbit and made a dash for it, but there were still a couple of other rabbits in the hole. Seeing the dead rabbit, the other rabbits dashed back again. Two of them huddled inside of the hole, petrified by the multiple threat, but one of the rabbits dashed towards the other entrance, right towards Jace. The two ended up both catching a rabbit and Charon was pleased, glad to have a meal in his jaws and a new pack mate acquainted with. |
