Practise makes perfect - Mason - January 13, 2016

Anyone from Silvertip, I would love some wolves he hasn’t met or seen in a while.

Mason danced slowly close to the tree, and then around the trunk, angling his body just so. Once he was on the other side  he turned, then came at the tree from another angle. Carefully, slowly, making sure none of his fur touched the bark, but that he got as close as possible to sidle past. He was teaching his mind the limitations of his body. He had managed to nearly head-plant into a tree a few times now on hunts. Granted it had been when he was younger, but even recently he had caught a few scrapes where he had thought he would squeeze past or through something. With the pack full, they were managing well with hunts, but mason was an adult now and he needed to make sure he did his part.

The sun was high in the sky – it was midday. Mason was moving slowly so the cold was creeping into his bones and deadening his muscles. Still, he continued to move around the large pine tree, whose first branches were some feet in the air, and whose trunk was perfect for this purpose because it was bare of spindly sticks. Soon he would stop, but for now he needed to hone his techniques. His pack needed him, and he needed his pack.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Moon Shadow - January 15, 2016

thought I could get moon shadow to meet more wolves so here we go

Moon shadow had been in the silver tip mountian pack for a while but had somehow managed to barely speak to any of her other pack mates. Of course she had pulled that one off. She kinda felt like till was still the loner she had been for so long. She decided she would go seek out someone to meet and it seemed as if she had found someone. While she was looking she came across a seemingly gray wolf who smelled of her pack.

The wolf was a young adult though he seemed bit younger than her. She didnt say anything at first, just watching as went around the tree. She couldn't understand what he was doing but decided she would ask while introducing herself."Hello there, I'm moon shadow. Not to be rude but what are you doing?" she asked being as polite and loud enough to hear as she could. Whenever she spoke to someone she hadn't known her voice would grow small and barely audible. Her words seemed to have come out loud enough to hear and she hoped this wolf could be a new friend.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Mason - January 15, 2016

Hi thanks for joining! :D I want Mason to meet more of his packmates too!

Mason didn’t notice Moon at first, because he was so intent on his practising.. When she spoke Mason jumped – he had been a bit jumpy when someone surprised him ever since being snatched by the cougar. He knew that even being on Silvertip did not make him immune.

She was speaking quietly, and Mason immediately forced his fluffy hackles to flatten down and he smiled at her . With a wag of his tail he admitted: “Hello Moon Shadow, that’s a nice name. I’m called Mason. When I go huntin’ I keep catching myself on things, and so I was practising how to get real close to something without hitting it as I go past.” He looked back at the tree and added “I’m just doing it slow at the moment, to get my body used to it. But then I will have to get faster. Do you want to try?”

He was sure she was probably better at hunting than he was, but it couldn’t hurt to see how she did. “You just sort of go really slow towards the trunk, then try and get as close to it as you can but without touching it as you go past.”

RE: Practise makes perfect - Moon Shadow - January 15, 2016

The other wolf had come off friendly and that relaxed moon shadow. He told her his name was mason. She liked that name. It was easy to say and wasn't a mouthful such as her name was. He told her he was practicing going around the tree since he was getting caught on things during hunting. When he asked if she wanted to try she waited a moment, thinking of whether or not she wanted to. She was a good hunter but it was always good to improve when ever she could.

"Yes, I think I'll give it a try."she said before going next to a tree next to his. She got as close as she could to it and started walking around. It actually was harder than it looked. For the first few minutes she bumped into the tree quite a few times but was soon able to do it with only a minor hiccup or so. "I think I'm getting the hang of this. Thanks for showing this technique, mason." she said in her normal voice now that she considered this wolf a friend. She was happy to have chosen such a kind pack to live with.

RE: Practise makes perfect - RIP Krypton - January 15, 2016

I hope you don't mind Krypton jumping in here c:

Krypton was ready to meet the new recruit wolf. She had already met Will and had quickly befriended him. Now she was on the somewhat prowl to meet the others, one of them she heard of was Atari, but she knew of another. Quickly, she searched for them, her nose practically digging into the snow, searching for scents.

Her shoulders were low towards the ground, her tail dragged slightly on the high snow. However, she was finally able to pick something up, on- no two scents that were foreign to her. She started to head the direction, hopefully she would meet someone new to her. As her pace quickened into a long-strided walk, the two scents became stronger, and her steps became quieter. They weren't Zaria quiet, but they were quiet enough to be able to hunt deer and not be heard until she was close.

Her head perked up, along with her long ears to let her eyes survey the area. "Where?" She asked herself quietly, hopefully getting closer with each step towards the two wolves.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Mason - January 17, 2016

Welcome! The more the merrier <3

Mason watched her with eager orange eyes. He was happy to see her try out his technique. He really felt like it had helped with his spatial awareness in recent times. She did make a few trial runs that included the occasional hit, but it didn't take her long to get the hang of it. "Well done Moon!" he crowed, proud of her. He was right - she was getting the hang of this quicker than he did.

"Do you have any trades you're interested...  - ?" Mason broke off when he heard a quiet voice. He thought he saw a figure amongst the trees, not far away from them. "Hello! Are you coming to join us?!" He shouted happily, his tail a windmill. Now was the time to make some friends! Mason turned back to Moon to keep her included in the conversation whilst he waited to see if Krypton would join them. "I mean, I wanna be a healer. I love to look after people, and I hate people being hurt. Do you have any trades?" he kept his gaze flitting between Moon and Krypton's impending approach, hoping she could also let them know what trades she was angling for. Maybe they could help each other.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Moon Shadow - January 18, 2016

Moon shadow smiled with gratitude at mason's praise. As he was asking about what trade she was aiming for he yelled out to wolf she had yet to notice until then. She was glad to be meeting more pack mates and it seemed mason was to. She smiled again, happy to know her pack mate was happy to. Mason again asked about her trade and she was happy to tell him. Not many wolves had asked her about such normal things.

"I'm aiming to get a cousler and caregiver trade. I love to help other wolves and I love to play and care for pups so guess I'd like to do that for the rest of my time." she said with eagerness in her voice. She just couldn't wait to master her trades.

RE: Practise makes perfect - RIP Krypton - January 18, 2016

Krypton had gotten closer to the wolves, the scents were stronger. She perked her ears up when she saw the two of them. They were unfamiliar to her, one had a different scent while the other she just couldn't recognize. Krypton kept her pace towards them and heard one of them call out to welcome her. The earth-colored woman smiled brightly towards the two, quickening her pace. When the lighter one, a male she presumed, had asked if she was joining their little group.

Her response was a kind nod of the head, and she finally became close to the two where she could speak and hear them clearly. Her hackles and shoulders were relaxed and low, the male looked familiar, yet she didn't know him personally. She had seen him hang around FitzDutiful a lot, so maybe a relative of some sort or a friend?

"Hello." She greeted the two gently, a smile still on her face. "My name is Krypton, may I know yours?" She asked the two of them calmly, not trying to be seen as overly excited or annoying. Calm, cool, collected. That was what Krypton was taught to be.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Mason - January 19, 2016

Mason smiled and wagged his tail. They had something in common! He was wanting to go for Caregiver too. Although he didn’t think he could be a counsellor. He could barely sort out his own life, never mind anyone else’s! He didn’t want to annoy her by pointing out that there were no puppies left in Silvertip Mountain. Mason and June had grown up, Steady had no girlfriend, Chaska was old, Alastor kept to himself; so there was no chance of there being puppies anytime soon… right?

Little did he know what Zaria and Fitz were planning.

A wolf with a beautiful coat of brown tones came onto the scene, and Mason bobbed his head in greeting. “Hi Krypton. I’m Mason Silvertip.” Mason smiled and allowed Moon to give her own name before he added. “We were just talkin’ about huntin’ and trades. I want to go for Healer, and Caregiver too. I want to help anyone who is poorly or too old though, rather than puppies.” He added in case Moon thought he was copying her.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Moon Shadow - January 19, 2016

As the other she wolf came over to moon shadow and mason she allowed mason to offer his name first before giving her own."My name is Moon Shadow, pleased to meet you." she said cheerfully. As mason spoke to krypton he said he wanted to heal the poor or elderly and moon shadow thought that was nice. She had loved to help others and was happy to know there was another like her.

As mason was done talking moon shadow decided to also add into the conversation."So what trade are you going for krypton?" she said curiously happy to learn about her pack mates. This was one of her happiest memories. She was again reminded of the blessing she had gotten when she found the silver tip mountain pack.

RE: Practise makes perfect - RIP Krypton - January 22, 2016

The earth woman's fluffed out ears twitched at the words from the two wolves. Mason Silvertip, the son of the alpha and most likely the wolf to inherit the title of alpha when FitzDutiful is ready to pass on the title. However, a small idea popped into the woman's head. Zaria has been in heat, and most likely FitzDutiful had taken his opportunity to become, er... very close to her. If Zaria was successful in having pups, would they take to the title when they become old enough, or would Mason's offspring?

Ahh! Too many thoughts buzzing around her head! The woman cleared her head and focused on the two. Moon Shadow, a pretty name to the agouti woman. She hadn't seen her before, maybe the new recruit? Mason spoke about hopefully acquiring a trade of healer and caregiver, one the agouti woman herself would like to earn. She smiled and let her tail wag a bit to the others.

"Those are good choices Mason. I too would like the caregiver/healer trade. However, my other main option is to become a scout." In all honesty, the scout trade would be a complete blast to have! Staying in one place was hard for her, mostly because she still has her loner thoughts. Come on, the poor girl spent an entire year being isolated from others because she was too scared to introduce herself! Besides, the scout trade meant she was allowed to leave the territory with an excuse! Who wouldn't want that?

RE: Practise makes perfect - Mason - January 23, 2016

Mason’s head swung around to Krypton with a smile when Moon Shadow asked her what trades she wanted to go for.

Luckily Mason did not know what Krypton was thinking. He had never so far broached the thought of other puppies coming into his life, and certainly not them usurping him. Though at the rate his bid for leadership was going at the moment, it was possible – Zaria seemed to hate him and he was fighting an uphill struggle; unlike Steady who was apparently the prodigal brother returned and was to be given Beta with no hassle.

When she said she wanted to go for Caregiver Mason smiled even more brightly, and he chortled a bit when she mentioned Scout. “Well it seems we have a lot in common, because Scout was another trade I was looking at.” Mason beamed, tail thumping. He had no issues sharing titles. They could easily share duties and take stress off each other – perhaps this would turn into a close friendship.

“I wonder if we have any newish recruits wanting to be hunter.” Mason mused, although he knew Zaria had an interest in hunting, and there was Alastor too.

“But since we all want to go for caregiver, why don’t we share some trade secrets?” Mason asked with a cheeky grin. “I’ll go first… I’ve learned that when a wolf –“ he looked at Moon and added “Or a puppy - looks like they are not breathing anymore, you need to try and lay them on their side with their paws in certain way, like this.” Mason allowed himself to flop onto his side and arranged his legs in a wolfish recovery position.  “An’ then you have to press on their belly firmly with your paws to try and see if anything pops out of their mouth.”

Mason finished with a grin from his position on the cold ground, looking up at his two new friends and waiting to see if they had any insights to offer.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Moon Shadow - January 31, 2016

sorry I've been gone so long. I had a 103 fever and some family matters

Moon shadow was glad to have made such nice friends and to have things in common with them was even more amazing. Moon shadow made sure to remember what mason said about choking in case of emergency and was glad that he cared to mention both wolves and pups. She then remembered the time her mother had taken care of her when she had cough and the remedy her mother had given her.

"Back when I was only pup I remember when I had a cough and how my mother had used honey and the herb tansy to heal it. It worked well and she was someone who inspired me to want to take care of others." she said with a happy tone though the memories weren't fond when she thought of sickness.

RE: Practise makes perfect - RIP Krypton - January 31, 2016

Mason and Moon Shadow seemed to be very open, kind wolves to Krypton. She liked to see that in others, it was a reminder that the world still had good in it. The light male spoke about wanting to obtain the same trades as Krypton. The earthy woman didn't mind sharing titles, if anything it would be a relief for the two. Less stress with more wolves.

Soon the boy spoke about trading information about being a caregiver, what they do or what they have learned in such. Mason went first, speaking about how to treat a wolf or a pup if it was choking. Valuable information, sometimes pups swallow their food before they chew it up enough.

Moon Shadow went next, stating how when she had a cough, her mother treated it with honey and tansy. Strange, Krypton never knew honey could heal besides the tongue with its sweet taste. Krypton's turn had fallen into place, she really didn't know what to talk about considering how many things she knew. Starting off with one was the main goal. "I had to watch over Chaska when he injured himself, so I used a flower's leaves called Feverfew to treat his headaches and migraines." That was valuable information, right?

No one would want to live with a splitting headache, they would have to at least know how to treat it.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Mason - February 01, 2016

Mason listened as they each spoke up about a topic of healing he didn’t know about. His Dad knew more about the herb side but he had not mentioned tansy and honey for coughs. Feverfew on the other paw, Mason had been taught about. Mason smiled at them both, grateful for the information. It was a good thing to be able to convene with other would-be medics.

“Thank you, I will make sure I store those in my mind.” Mason looked at Krypton specifically to ask: “with Feverfew, is it best to let them just chew the leaves, or should they swallow them?” This was something he had wondered but hadn’t had a chance to ask his Dad yet.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Moon Shadow - February 03, 2016

Moon shadow had never been so happy before. She was learning much from these other wolves and thought she could form a good friendship with them. She listened as Krypton told her and Mason about a herb, feverfew which she had not heard of until now, that cured headaches and was glad for that piece of information. Soon Mason spoke up about wether or not to chew or swallow the leaves and she was glad he had asked instead of her. Instead of speaking she stayed quiet and nodded her head.

She liked these new friends and did want to seem like she didn't know anything that could help or say something to make her seem stupid. She had always felt self concious around others but that was slowly melting away, but it was still there. She listened closely wanting to know as much as possible about healing so she could take care of her pack to.

RE: Practise makes perfect - RIP Krypton - February 11, 2016

ASDFGHGJ DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS MY TURN SORRY

Krypton was quiet, happy with her packmates sharing new information about the caregiver trade. She wished to pursue it rather quickly though, the title seemed to be a nice fitting to her.

Her ears perked up at Mason's question, was it best to just chew the leaves or to swallow it entirely? She wagged her tail as she answered gentle. "It is best to swallow the leaves, although the taste is quite erm- unsatisfying. However, they work well with migraines and other aches." She was honest with her answer, Chaska seemed to be a bit better after chewing up the feverfew leaves.

"How do you get the honey, from the bees? I'd be afraid to get stung." She turned her head towards Moon Shadow, her head tilted slightly in curiosity.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Mason - February 17, 2016

Mason listened and stored the information away. He was also intrigued by the query about honey. He supposed that one of the few ways to obtain honey would be to break a hive down from its tree – a hard enough feat – then steer clear of the bees until they had left. However it would be dangerous because honey could attract bears and other scavengers. Perhaps the easiest way was to simply happen across an old broken hive and find some combs in the crevices?

Mason turned his head to Moon Shadow and waited for her reply eagerly. He was learning so much!

RE: Practise makes perfect - Moon Shadow - February 20, 2016

I'm so sorry for the delayed response. Schools just getting harder by the day.

moon shadow was glad to provide the answer, looking fondly back at the memory of when her mother began to teach her how to heal."My mother taught me it was best to look through abondoned bee's nest and to get the honeycomb out of there." she said with a happy tone. She was happy because she got to look back at a memory of her mother without being sad or mournful.

She never been so happy before, even if she was only having a simple conversation with others. These were the experiences that she wanted have with others. To make memories of the simple but great things in life that would help her grow in character.

RE: Practise makes perfect - RIP Krypton - February 24, 2016

ADSFDGJHFKGL; IT'S MY TURN AGAIN IM SO SORRY FOR THE HOLD UP

Moon Shadow replied with information for the two, stating her mother taught her to go to an abandoned hive and extract the honeycomb there! Quite a smart idea and plan, the earthy girl would be sure to try it soon if need be. She smiled gently towards the two and decided to give another quick piece of advice. "Another little piece I know...If a wolf is having a hard time staying alive, use hot blood to revive them."

Blood could keep a wolf awake just for a little longer, not for an eternity though. Hopefully this piece of knowledge was acceptable for the two.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Mason - February 26, 2016

It's fine!! xD I loved this thread, hope you don't mind wrapping it up? I'm happy to have a more current one if you guys want :3

"That's so clever!" Mason exclaimed. He hadn't even thought about abandoned nests but that made complete sense. After all, bees did desert the hive if there were damning consequences to staying. Also they seemed to die off or hibernate over winter, so presumably they left their homes bare. Mason stored the knowledge in a little medic box in his mind, along with the nugget about hot blood. Mason wondered how best to give them hot blood, and so he queried it with Krypton. He could happily talk well into the night about anything medical. He was really invested in doing something to help his pack. He knew that these two ladies were too, and between the three of them he was sure they could make it work.

RE: Practise makes perfect - Moon Shadow - March 01, 2016

yeah a new thread sounds good. Last post la me.

Moon shadow was glad to be praised on her knowledge and smiled gleefully. Soon krypton spoke up about how hot blood could keep a wolf going on if they were close to losing there life. Though she did have questions on how to give the wolf the hot blood."Krypton if you don't mind me asking how would you give the hot blood to the wolf? she asked. She was glad to be getting this information and hopefully the beginning to a real friendship. She noticed they had been talking for a while and after getting the answer decide to go find a place to rest.

RE: Practise makes perfect - RIP Krypton - March 01, 2016

All archive, thanks for the thread c:

Krypton was happy with these two wolves. She thought of them to be close to her in a way of wanting the same knowledge of helping. Moon Shadow had asked about how to get the blood into the wolf, the woman was happy to reply. "Usually a rabbit that has been torn a little to pour the blood in. Even your own blood could work, though it would be a pain to do so".

Krypton thumped her tail but soon returned her gaze to around her and the small group. "It had been quite nice talking to you two, but I must depart to check the borders. I hope to speak with you two soon" She offered to them, beaming and turning to head off towards the trails.
